You know Dan that just might be an idea to consider. I was
asked by Andras to come back with or without a team. They were
having IT problems with a server as where someone like you could fix
them probably.
What had happened was the second day it rained. One job was
available and most people were free to loaf. I volunteered and ended
up breaking up concrete in a bathroom floor. After that I started to
strip wallpaper. Slowly everyone on the team showed up and helped
with the wallpaper stripping. They had no idea what to expect from
anyone on the team, including myself. We ended up stripping the
wallpaper in the entire place. Quitting time was 4 pm and we almost
had it all done so I asked if anyone was willing to stay and finish
it. Half the crew stayed and we finished. After supper I was asked
how far I got with the work. I said it was done, all of it. He
said "really". He said the other rooms all needed done also if I
could. I repeated they were done and I understood they would be
next. He said "really". He asked me what I was doing the next day
and I said finish the spouting cleaning from Monday and roof
repairs. No more asignments were made after that. I was told to do
what I wanted to do and be in charge. Lists of things that they
wanted done were given me to do as I seen fit.
The blind leading the sighted became a private joke and after
about a week they found out that I was almost completely blind by
accident. I usually was in bed by 10pm and on Thursday night I was
given a private tour of the attic area where really old stuff from
the 1800's up was being stored. Since it was dark and I was not
back, the group started a campus wide search since I see nothing in
low light levels. They went building to building asking if the blind
guy bob was there. They went around the ponds to see if I had fallen
in or just got lost and couldn't find my way back. Anyway I was
found having a banana split at the head carpenters place. Friday
morning everyone knew the guy heading the work groups was blind.
After that, I really started having fun and was invited out all the
time and hardly spent a dime.
Saturday I got invited to the head tent of the mayor to have
lunch at a festival at a re-inactment of battle with invaders. Our
group leader just had to laught at how nice everyone treated me. It
all started by the youth members stripping wallpaper.
