David,
It's a powdery substance. Below is a description from the web and
also some information about not using it on non-recommended substraights.
Planipatch
Description
For horizontal patching:
Planipatch is an ultra-fast-drying, self-curing, polymer-modified,
cement-based patching compound.
Applications
* Cracks, holes, voids and depressions prior to installation of
floor coverings
* Concrete and approved wood underlayment
* Embossing leveler or patch over properly prepared vinyl sheet
goods, vinyl composition tile, cement terrazzo and residual cutback
adhesive surfaces
Benefits
* Rapidly develops high compressive strength
Important Information
Planipatch TM
Over Non-Recommended Substrate Conditions
It has come to our attention that Planipatch mixed with Planipatch
Plus latex admixture is being used for applications over existing
carpet and sheet goods adhesives. We would like to point out from a
technical standpoint that the high pH level in the cement may react
with the adhesive residue, causing
it to break down and lose bond.
In addition, there are individuals who feel that this system can also
be used as a sealer to block out the migration of ink markers,
crayons, oils, discolored wood chips, yellowed floors or other
problematic conditions. We would like to make it clear that this
product is not a floor sealer. It is a substrate preparation product
designed to bond to certain specified substrates to expand the use of
vinyl floor
covering. MAPEI would like to point out that when an "old" carpet or
vinyl glue residue is sandwiched between a cement patching compound
and cement substrate, the adhesive can be compromised. The high pH of
the concrete and patch will many times dry out this "old" adhesive,
causing it to lose bond
with the substrate. Thus the origin of the saying, "your installation
is only as good as your substrate."
