I never thought that I would complain about a shop vac being too powerful. I just decided to take it out to clean the dog hair and some sand from the beach. I first put the small floor attachment and it pulled up the carpet. To vacuum I had to only use the hose and hold it on an angle. so it would not stick to the floor Then took it to the front porch to clean that carpet and had a similar problem where the floor attachment would not move. For the porch we usually use the house cleaner but occasionally I do take the shop vac out. I think I will look for another floor attachment and drill some small holes to decrease the suction on the floor..
