Thanks, Tom. My brother in law is pretty good w/electronics, so if the
beeper boxes don't do the trick, I might check out building something
ourselves. Certainly won't hurt to price it out if I do wind up putting off
rigging the yard for music any time soon. Thanks.

Joe,
I don't know of a commercial item, but there is a pretty simple design that
uses a couple 9V batteries in the archives of the Smith-Kettlewell technical
file
http://www.ski.org/Rehab/sktf

search for "Little Go Beep"
There are two such named devices, the model 1 is the one you want. It uses
very standard electronic parts. If you don't know any ham techies who could
bung you up a few units, you might contact the local junior "community"
college if they have an electronics program and see if you can work up any
enthusiasm
to get a couple students to help.

Also, the folks at HandiHams
http://www.handiham.org
have a design for a beacon that sends any pre-programmed character in morse
code. These are short range but use veryy little power. They were intended
to mark trails at there camps. I have no idea if they have any around, or
any way to get more. Write to the manager, Pat Tice
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
and see what he has to say.

There are also little "key finders" that beep when you clap your hands, but
the ones we've tried don't work reliably. We got them from a cheapie
electronics junk place maybe Cyber guys or the like for a few bucks.
This could be the cheapest answer but used button batteries and may not be
reliable. You'd maybe feel silly jogging round clapping your hands, but you
can tell the curious neighbors you're composing.

On the other hand maybe you could just wear a rubber helmet, and put your
head down and go for it! <GRIN>

Hope someone has a more available idea.
Tom Fowle
