Homelite Consumer Products Announce Recall to Repair Chain Saws Due to Chain 
Brake Failure

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in 
cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of 
the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled 
products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Homelite Chain Saws

Units: About 370,000

Importer: Homelite Consumer Products Inc., of Anderson, S.C.

Hazard: The chain brake can fail to stop the chain on its first application, 
posing a risk of laceration to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: This recall involves Homelite brand chain saws with the 
following model numbers: UT10514, UT10516, UT10517, UT10518, UT10520, 
UT10540, UT10560 and UT10918. Affected chain saws have manufacture date 
between November 2007 and August 2008. Both the model number and the date of 
manufacture appear on the chain saw's data plate, located beneath the rear 
handle of the saw. Products with a green "dot" sticker under the bottom side 
of the handle area and on the outside of the package are not subject to this 
recall.

Sold exclusively at: Home Depot stores nationwide between December 2007 and 
October 2008 for between $110 and $200.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the chain saws and contact 
Homelite Consumer Products to locate the nearest authorized service center 
to schedule a free repair.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in 
cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of 
the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled 
products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Fit & Fresh(tm) Smooth Blend Mixers

Units: About 54,500

Importer: MEDport LLC, of Providence, R.I.

Hazard: While placing the cup on or off the base of the mixer, the mixer can 
unexpectedly turn on, activating the blade. This can pose a serious 
laceration hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: MEDport has received one report of finger lacerations 
that required medical treatment.

Description: This recall involves Fit & Fresh(tm) Smooth Blend Mixers with 
item number 770FF and model number SB-19. The white mixers have four 
components - a base unit, blade assembly, blending cup and cap. Fit & 
Fresh(tm) is printed on the front of the base. The recalled mixers can be 
identified by the date code, a four-digit number located on the bottom of 
the base. Date codes included in the recall are: 2707, 4407, 5207 and 0308.

Sold at: Longs, GNC and Vitamin Shoppe stores nationwide and at 
www.amazon.com from September 2007 through August 2008 for about $25.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the mixers and determine if 
their product is subject to this recall. Consumers with the recalled mixers 
should return the product to the place of purchase or contact MEDport LLC to 
arrange for a refund.

DYMO Recalls Power Adapters Sold with DYMO(r) Printers Due to Burn Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in 
cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of 
the following consumer product.

Name of Product: DYMO(r) LabelWriter(r) Power Adapters used with printers

Units: About 17,000

Manufacturer: DYMO, of Stamford, Conn.

Hazard: The power adapters can fail, causing the printer to overheat. This 
can pose a burn hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: DYMO has received 11 reports of printers overheating and 
emitting smoke and/or a burnt smell. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves the external power adapters sold with the 
following DYMO LabelWriter(r) 400 series printers: DYMO LabelWriter 400, 
DYMO LabelWriter 400 Turbo, DYMO LabelWriter Twin Turbo, DYMO LabelWriter 
Duo and DYMO Desktop Mailing Solution with housing date codes 2407, 2507, 
2607 or 2707. The date code is printed on the plastic housing of the 
adapter. Power adapters with "RoHS" printed on the top right of the product 
label are not included in this recall.

Sold by: Office supply stores, discount retailers, and various specialty 
retailers nationwide from September 2007 through October 2008 for between 
$100 and $250.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately unplug the recalled power adapter from 
the wall socket and from their printer and contact the firm to receive a 
free replacement external power adapter kit.

PC Notebook Computer Batteries Recalled Due to Fire and Burn Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in 
cooperation with the firms named below, today announced a voluntary recall 
of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled 
products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Lithium-Ion Batteries used in Hewlett-Packard, Toshiba and 
Dell Notebook Computers

Units: About 35,000 batteries (an additional 65,000 batteries were sold 
worldwide)

Battery Cell Manufacturer: Sony Energy Devices Corporation, of Japan

Hazard: These lithium-ion batteries can overheat, posing a fire and burn 
hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: There have been 19 reports of the batteries overheating, 
including 17 reports of flames/fire (10 resulting in minor property damage). 
Two consumers experienced minor burns.

Description: The recalled batteries were included with, and sold separately

Sold by: Computers with the recalled batteries were sold directly by 
Hewlett-Packard, Toshiba and Dell, through computer and electronics stores 
nationwide, and through various Web retailers for between $700 and $3000. 
The batteries were also sold separately for between $100 and $160.

Toshiba - sold from April 2005 to October 2005

Dell - shipped between November 2004 and November 2005

Battery Cells Manufactured in: Japan

Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the recalled battery from their 
notebook computer, and contact their computer manufacturer to determine if 
their battery is included in the recall and to request a free replacement 
battery. After removing the recalled battery from their notebook computer, 
consumers may use the AC adapter to power the computer until a replacement 
battery arrives. Consumers should only use batteries obtained from their 
computer manufacturer or an authorized reseller.
