The strategic view... 165 gallons of water is an excellent preparedness idea however, if for a myriad of reasons you can't access it, it is pretty much worthless to you. Wayne, my suggestion to you would be to have water sequestered in several locations in 10, 15, or 20 gallon fast packs. You will still have access to some of it regardless of the emergency and tactically it would be easier to move should the need arise.

Wonder though if it would be worth while mounting them in the attic space appropriately supported, insulated and with a little heat and enough plumbing to drain and refill when necessary. Again I too am mostly thinking out loud. ----- Original Message ----- From: Dan Rossi To: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, October 30, 2008 9:33 AM Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] Hard Plastic Water Barrels Just thinking out loud here. If you insolate the top pretty well, so that the top doesn't freeze first, then as the rest freezes it will push up and, if you leave head space, it should be OK. Maybe wrapping the top half of the barrel in bubble wrap or old blankets would do the trick. Again, just thinking out loud. -- Blue skies. Dan Rossi Carnegie Mellon University.
