I have the 25 foot tape and a talking tape as well. Depending on the person it
can be very accurate. I'm just not as good as some with it and I tend to be
off by more than I'm happy with.

As for the ProGrip, it's designed to be used with a circular saw. They have a
saw base if you want to go that way that mounts on the bottom of your saw and
has an edge that fits in the T track on the top of the guide. I don't know
how well it would work ripping a 2 by 4 because you'll run out of surface to
clamp to eventually.

If you're cross cutting I'd rather clamp a speed square to the wood and follow
that.

Actually I'd use my miter saw but everyone isn't as blessed with fancy and
expensive machines.

I'm thinking if you do much ripping, a bench top table saw would be a good idea
for you. If you have a 3 foot table you are using now, you could cut out a
piece from the top and set the saw inside the table. Keep the piece you cut
out and you could fix something to hold the top in place if you took the saw
back out. I still have a little 10 inch Delta around. Don't use it often but
now and then I need a table saw at a house I'm working on and I won't drag my
big one along.

Have you used one? I read about one and it didn't seem to allow for
  very accurate measuring.

That would not work on a hand held circular saw, right?
