Well, fortunately maybe I don't have to see. People don't usually work like that in this sort of weather. He seems to have got a little behind. Many years ago I got behind too and was racing to get my roof finished before the snow. It was getting just on freezing as I buttoned it up and though the house wrap was on I didn't trouble myself further with outside work until the following year.
Larger contractors will sometimes work in this weather. They built our medical clinic a few years ago in the winter but they use a lot of tarps, other framed shelters and whacking great propane heaters. They add stuff to the cement as well to cure it hot until they get things weather tight. In northern Canada and Alaska they use a lot of big lights as well. Just now we are down to daylight from a little after 8:30 in the morning to a little before 4:30 in the afternoon. I don't know what he is doing out there since I can't see him but he was definitely out there this morning when I left for work a little after 8:30 and it had warmed up to minus 26C on my back door thermometer which is about 15 below Fahrenheit. So far we only have about a foot of snow though, I don't know what he is doing to keep that roof clean when it has snowed. I am guessing though that a pneumatic nailer would probably freeze up out there. I have never used air tools out in below freezing weather and I only ever see tire inflators. I know that when they service the big timber harvesting equipment in the bush they cover them under a shelter or a sort of parachute thing and heat it with a bloody great heater.Still a lot cheaper than floating it back to a shop in most cases. ----- Original Message ----- From: Bob Kennedy To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, December 10, 2008 9:08 PM Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] Craftsman nextec hammerhead auto-hammer I can't imagine putting roofing on in that kind of weather. I'd be afraid of breaking myself let alone the shingles... How do you still see when it's that cold? ----- Original Message ----- From: Dale Leavens To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, December 10, 2008 6:44 PM Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] Craftsman nextec hammerhead auto-hammer The chap across the road is using one on his roof, I suppose it is more comfortable in the cold, this morning it was minus 30C (22F below) It sounds like ripping repetitive flatulence on the roof decking. ----- Original Message ----- From: Max Robinson To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, December 09, 2008 12:01 AM Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] Craftsman nextec hammerhead auto-hammer Bob asked. > How much is it right now? 100 dollars.
