Hello folks,

Thanks for the responses, I figure things out as I go and try to get pictures
of things in my head, sometimes without the benefit of actually going to a
hardware store and seeing displayed tools and such.
I am sure you can relate.
Judging from the notes I have taken on my train tracks, which are the longest
thing I usually make, I would need a table, at least 30 to 33 inches long which
I could clamp strips of wood together on.
I could do this on either edge of the table, or if I found a clamp which would
clamp both pieces at once that would be great too.
With the clothespin or alligator types, you get slippage and potentially uneven
bonding or pairings
The rails are only little strips of wood, one goes on it's side, to make a
place for the wheel of the train to rest on and the other stands on edge to
make the rail part of the track, and I glue those long pieces together.
I would want to clamp them as evenly across as possible, to get a good
adherence all the way down.
If I can find a good table long enough, which would hold different types of
clamps and the like, I think that would satisfy me, so if you know of a table
like that, just let me know.
Is it this black and decker, the original one, and if so, do you know the model
number, or the weight capacity?
That was the main classification which I saw to tell them apart, the weight
ranks.
Until I get to the hardware store, I'm just trying to gather up the idea of it
in my head, so excuse my going on and on about it.

Thanks,

Matt

How much do you want to spend? Kreg has an assembly table with T tracks and
90 degree corners and all but that is more for cabinet work.

Making the toys you list I'm not sure I see the need to put out lots of money
on a fancy table. Not to say there isn't a need, I just don't see it myself.
Maybe I'm missing something.

How are you wanting to clamp things. If you want built in vises or something
on that order, you'll pay a fortune. If you are looking for something to
assemble your projects on, you could make a very sturdy table by gluing a
couple sheets of 3 quarter plywood or MDF and making some legs and braces for
it.

Help us out with what type of clamp you want to use. Also, I would think it
better to use a square in your hand but again I may be missing something in a
special need.

  Hello,
I am interested in finding a work table or bench with built in features such
as clamps and maybe a good strait guide for making sure that pieces are square
and so on?
I make toy trucks, trains, cars, that sort of thing.
Someone had suggested a black and Decker work bench, but I read some bad
reviews.
Of course, that doesn't always mean anything.
What do you suggest I get in one or do you have a store bought one which you
like?
If you suggest my building my own, please indicate what sort of clamps and
where to put them, and whatever else you might can think of which I am not
writing here.

  Thanks a lot,
I am not currently doing anything much in my shop but would like to be at it
again.

  Matt
