Max,

Possibly the tread mill was not properly set up. Usually, one of the
rollers is on a pivot and can be adjusted in or out to make the belt track
straight. I saw a belt get shredded on a brand new tread mill at the gym
because they hadn't adjusted it after installing it.

Having that incline really helps to get the heart rate up.

I am not sure of the make and model we have at our gym, but the buttons
are slightly raised so that you can easily feel them. I can't set all the
fancy shmancy programming, but I can start it, increase and decrease the
speed and incline, and stop it.
