I have a separate mandrel I use in mine. It has a threaded part in the center
and then 2 fingers that fit into holes on the back end. A nut tightens the
fingers into the holes and keeps the mandrel from getting so tight you can't
get the saw back off.

I'm guessing that is probably the same kind of saw you have there.
With the teeth down, you can see the big hole in the center and then 2 or even
4 smaller holes on the larger models.

The reason so many are so expensive is they are often bimetal, which means they
will cut through mild steel as well as wood.

  Subject: [BlindHandyMan] Hole saws

  Hi,
What can you guys tell me about different sorts of hole saws.
I have always used which I figure are relatively cheap hole saws.
Square hole in the middle of them, relatively thin metal and they afix to a
drill bit rig which can be screwed tight onto a short 4th inch bit.
They have a nut which screws off that rig and you stick the hole saw on and
then tighten the nut back on.
These work well for me, but they dull over time and have to be replaced.
They last a good long while though.
Then I have one which is made of tougher metal and it's deep well, and I
think it has a round hole in it and it screws onto a different sort of bit.
I don't remember when I picked that one up, but I sent my wife out to replace
some of my others the other day and told her not to buy one of those deep wells.
Told her to pick up two 2 inch holesaws.
She came back with 2 of those deep well tough metal ones sure enough.
I intend to have her return them and to send what I want with her to show
them.
But, what's the deal with these tougher ones?
They seem way too freaking expensive!
Think she said that the two of them, with one bit for them to afix to cost
like 24 dollars plus?
  Wha?
  Just curious.
I doubt I will make it up town with her to ask for myself.

  Thanks,

  Matt
