Lee, the one that you have sounds like a large base that has a series of 
rings in it to hold the different size band core bits.  The base is designed to 
hold all bits a the same time for storage.  Those are sold only as such.  Those 
are held in place by a screw in the side.
     Hole saw sets start, usually with 4 sizes plus the shaft section and it 
will only hold one bit at a time.  The bit screw on and get locked in place.  
Some use lock rings where as the newer snap pin one never lock and go on fast 
and off, toolless since the bit is held stationary with two pins on a floating 
body.
