Actually the whole house fan is also called an attic fan. The ones that mount near the vents are called gable fans.
Isn't it cool to have so many names for basically the same things? ----- Original Message ----- From: Brice Mijares To: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, March 05, 2009 10:09 AM Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] attic fan Let me put my two sense in. There is a difference between a attic fan and a whole house fan. The whole house fan is usually installed in the ceiling to draw air from within the quarters of the house, and the attic fan is mounted up to one of the attic vents in the attic. The attic fan sucks in air from the opposite side of the attic where usually there is another air vent. When set up properly, you have a thermostat between the fan and where ever you tap into the electric wiring in the attic. Personally, I have my thermostat set around 105 or 110 degrees, I forgotten since it's been about 9 years since I installed it. Anyway this fan will kick on once the attic temperature reaches that thermostat setting and will stay on all day until once again it reaches that thermostat setting and falls below the setting it will shut off. \Believe me, What difference an attic fan makes in the hot summer months. I live in a two story house, and when I'd go to bed at night before installing the attic fan, you could feel the heat radiating off the ceiling. That's my two sense.
