Betsy, a starter peice is placed at the most bottom measurement. The first
section snaps under the bottom rail of the starter section. the top of the
first section gets nailed at the top to hold it up into the locking ridge of
the starter section and also to hold it flush to the wall. The top of the
first section also has a lip to lock in the bottom of the second section to go
on. The second section get snaped to the lip of the first and than its top gets
nailed to keep it flush to the wall and up so it stays locked into the first.
As you work your way up, you snap each section into the top of the
previous one and than nail it to keep it in place. All sides and top after it
is finished has trim. The sides go on with the starter section and so can the
top trim. It is quite easy. The nails are not driven tight so the siding
floats for expansion and contration. Sections are not cut to fit tight for
movement.
