Hi Terry,

They do make specially formulated patching mixes, they contain some sort of 
acrylic which allows the cement to be feathered out very thinly and which 
sticks it better to the existing stock. As always, it goes on better if you 
scrub and wash away any loose before applying it.

Look for something labeled as a patching compound.

  Well it is that time of the year again to get the weeds, grass etc out of
  the cracks of the sidewalk etc. As always I have cracks and missing chunks
  of cement to replace. In the past I simply use a sand mix (I believe that is
  what it is called, comes in an 80 pound bag) to patch things up. Is this the
  best product to use or is there something better?
