I've used rock salt in edging. I laid a line of salt heavily between to lawns atop the bricks that separate them. I watered it and left what didn't wash off. Each time it would rain for the next 6 weeks it gave that intruding grass a taste. Took 6 months to disolve it all. Nicely showning bricks now.
Washing it down with a heavy solution a few times and then brushing the salt in between might just be the trick.
