Max, I am a total and use a router. I only have three though. They are pretty versatile but, as with most power tools, you need to treat routers with respect. When you hear that sucker spin up to 18 or 20 thousand RPM, you will understand.
I use mine both in and out of a table, just depends on what I am working on. I have used mine for cutting dados and putting decorative edges on pieces. I've also used it for things that a table saw would probably be better used, but since I don't have a table saw, the router has come in handy. For example, I've used it to remove the tung on a piece of tung and groove flooring. There is an incredible number of various bits that make all kinds of profiles and within the types of bits, there are variations, like how many flutes, or cutting edges, are on a bit. You could spend thousands of dollars on sets of bits, but you can also get basic bits for 10 bucks more or less. Anyway, be careful, and enjoy putting some really nice edges on scrap wood for testing purposes. -- Blue skies. Dan Rossi Carnegie Mellon University. E-Mail: [email protected] Tel: (412) 268-9081
