I have purchased a couple of locking tape measures, always looking for one with a better lock. The latest one I got is half perfect. Once you pull the tape out, it is impossible to push it back in without pressing the release button, so it isn't just a friction lock, but an actual ratchet lock. Unfortunately, it will still extend fairly easily if you are not careful. So I have found that once I take the measurement, I just pinch the tape between my fingers and keep inward pressure on it as I move it to the saw. Works quite well.
