You win.

Maybe Ron has it right. Back to the copper lines.

This one is the braded type. about six inches down from the top there is
about a two inch long split.

I think in my case it was just a cheaply made piece. The line itself didn't
explode, the end blew out of the fitting that screwed on to the bottom of
the tank. If I had put the line on with a wrench or pliers I'd take the
blame. But, I only put it on by hand and I didn't put the force to it. It
worked fine for about 2 years I guess it was and then it started dripping
one day. The next day it came apart. I replaced it with the braided style
this time. I normally carry a couple of the braided lines in my plumbing
box but for some reason I didn't have one handy when I replaced the toilet.

Lucky for us I heard it pop and while it's hard to turn off the shut off
while you're being hosed with cold water, I was able to clean up the mess
  before any damage.

So what does the manufacturer of these lines say? Does anything have to do
with type or hardness of water?

I have been using the brayed hoses and so far and knock on wood, none have
  failed.
