well, we'll go with,
not all sinks have them as I would be stopped there as well.
But I had this problem and it was a matter of tilting the spray against a 
side so it could defuse, as "straight in and down" gave me splashing.
Coat hanger might help hold it in place if you can go from behind the sink 
and in, to wrap the hanger around the pipe and the hose for control.
