well, as a blind magician, my job at the time was to lie to the people in
the audiance.
Many professional magicians asked me how I knew when I had the audiance
misdirected. First it was a feeling that I had and mostly if you were doing
it correctly you knew.
I wish that I still could do the shows. It was a great motivational program.
Aftermy paralysis I lost the ability to do most of the illusions. There is
still a few that I can use.
I am still pondering over a way to re-create this one.

A google search yielded quite a bit of chatter about this stunt. everyone
seems to agree that it isn't a very well executed trick and they all share
various observations on the switch theme. Some were advancing the image
frame-by-frame and apparently at one point the bulb is lit for a couple of
frames before the flame is struck.

I gather that the chap made a lot of money from all the people looking at
the trick.

Who are the fools?

Well, I just had Karen watch it again. I do not think that I can make the
illusion. The candles are the 3 inch diameter. They are placed on a wooden
table. I think that I know how it is done. The clue was when he blew out
the candles the bulb also went out. There was a suttle move at the same
time
where he reached under the table. What I suspect is that he has a
conductor
inserted into the candles and the nails make contact. There are probably
fine nails through the wooden table that the candles set upon. and the
batteries and the circuit is completed under the table. I would not be
able
to duplicate because when I do any demonstrations I do no longer take my
magic stand. that could be modified but I no longer do long shows only one
or two illusions during a talk. If I were to try to imitate that I would
use
a foot switch. So no one could see my hand going under the table. It is a
  great trick

What are the candles standing on? Might it be a conductor with a pin or
maybe even iron filings in the bottom of the candle to assist conduction?

I didn't se the article all the fuss is about so maybe I am way off base.

There had to be a hidden battery somewhere. Those candles are so big it
wouldn't be hard to hide several molded into them. A wire under the table
  would complete the circuit.
