Dan, Excellent idea, didn't thing of that. I actually have one of them I keep right on my portable dolly. One question, what did you do about length when the span exceeded the length of the strap?

You have to be careful because the hooks on the end of the strap can dig into the deck boards, but it worked like a charm. A ratchet strap is just a long piece of webbing with a ratcheting mechanism that you can use to shorten the length of the webbing. You can generate some pretty serious force with one.
