>Christy, > >Nona Christy and Nona and all, As long as you're feeding back about your RStanley concert experiences, I'd like to chime in myself. We booked the band at our church for a Saturday Night/Sunday Morning series. The Saturday night portion of the show was at a local watering hole--The Turf Club. It's usually a venue for all kinds of bar rock acts, and I was a little worried that the venue would be an insult to the dignity of the band members. We were so pleasantly surprised to see them perform in the smoky joint with pizzazz and flair, filling up a 63-minute set with great hard driving bluegrass tunes. Among the many local bands that shared the stage with The RS Band were our own Platte Valley Boys, the second oldest bluegrass outfit in the Twin Cities. I know for a fact that more than one member of that band was in awe of their hero, Dr. Ralph Stanley himself. It was a total success. Ralph is a professional who is very well-seasoned from the road. I got the sense that he performed the show like a job that needed to be done, and done right. We were pleased to host the band the next day at House Of Mercy, the big church which I think exalted their sound much more. Again, Ralph was in good form, performing gospel tunes and taking requests. I think a man of his age is doing so well to field requests, which he did on two occasions that evening, even rolling through a song that he could only partially remember just to please. And master of the reprise he is, reprising "I'll Fly Away" during the surge of applause. Two years ago we hosted a show with Charlie Louvin in the same space, last September it was Ralph Stanley; who next?
