Neal, I am not aware of them recording together but the Stanley Brothers
did play on the same radio program, with Lester and Earl. The program
was called "Farm & Fun Time" on WCYB, Bristol, VA. back
in the late 40's. In those days we would be working in the fields
and come to the house to eat and get to listen to that program while
we had our "dinner" (lunch). As I recall the program was about 1
hour long and each group would do 15 or 20 minutes each. As I recall
the program had The Stanley Brothers, Lester & Earl, Mac Wiseman, Curly
King. The words to the theme song that started the show was
"Coming along, singing a song; singing our troubles away."
Of the "Old Masters" of Bluegrass and Mountain Music we only have Dr Stanley and Earl Scruggs and Mac Wiseman left. And I sure would like to see them get together today and do a recording or something together today. It would really be something to see Ralph and Earl play the banjo together and sing together. Maybe if enough bluegrass fans asked for it, it would happen. Merry Christmas and May God bless. Neal Osborne wrote: Did Dr Stanley ever record with Lester Flatt and/or Earl Scruggs?Neal |
