Dear Jenny,
You're correct that Ralph doesn't play banjo
much on stage anymore, but he often plays banjo for one or two
songs near the end of a show. At the "Great High Mountain" concert at
the Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia, on June 2, Ralph played banjo on "Rocky
Island." He joked to the effect that he "only plays banjo when people
demand it."
At his Memorial Concert on Saturday, May 29, Ralph
played banjo on two songs at the end of the afternoon set. There was a
brief delay as Steve Sparkman had to change the strap on his banjo so Ralph
could play it. I was surprised Ralph didn't have his own banjo behind the
stage. Ralph didn't play banjo for the evening set.
Sincerely,
Jeff Root
