2/22/2005 Dear Pat:
How I'd love to meet you! In case you didn't find apalshop-Noland Stanley was right on with it-it's www.apalshop.org & you have to click on different subtitles to find what you want. What I bought there was a videotape called "The Ralph Stanley Story". They have some hard-to-find items & I was so satisfied with their customer service that I return there periodically to see what they've gotten in since I was there last. We're uncertain whether we can make the "Hills of Home" festival this year yet. We're right in the middle of relocating to Tennessee this minute after about 8 months here in Ohio with my father-in-law. IF-it's at all possible for me to be there, we'll make it. I'll try to let you know closer to that time. It's been 1993 since I've been back & I've only been back to see Mama & Daddy's gravesite once since Mother passed away in 1990. I long to visit there again. I normally try to go when everything is over & then I can sit up on the hill with Mama & Daddy for hours & just be there with them. I miss them so much every day. I love to go to the festival-music just sounds so good coming out of those hills, & I know somehow that Daddy is very near in spirit there. Pat, if I do get to to go this year, I'm really looking forward to being near my parents again & hearing the wonderful music echo through the hills they & I love so much & also to meeting you. If not this year, maybe next year for sure. I have only 2 grandchildren, a grandson & granddaughter & my granddaughter has a dance recital the last weekend in May. I've established a trust fund for these little ones with Daddy's hard-earned record royalties & paid for dancing lessons for my granddaughter for 3 years now & I promised her last year that I'd make it to her recital THIS year if I was living. SO---I'll have to see how it goes & where we are with relocation & whether it conflicts with Shayla's dance recital or not. I long to take my 2 little grandchildren to the festival there one year. My grandson, age 3, is the spitting image of Daddy & he was BORN singing! He could sing before he could talk & loves music. My grandchildren have never been to a festival & I'd truly love to take them so they can see some of their family history & appreciate what wonderful folks they are descended from. They both love music & I know they'd enjoy it. I am so grateful for your kindness & friendship, Pat. I have found some of the best people in the world among Daddy & Ralph's fans & friends. Bluegrassers are in a class all by themselves! There are 99 nice, good folks for every 1 turkey you find among bluegrass music fans for some reason. This seems true everywhere, too. I met really great people among bluegrass fans in Australia & New Zealand during the 6 years we were there. I'll try & let you know closer to festival time whether I'll have the honor & privilege of meeting you in person. Here's hoping..... Keep loving bluegrass & mountain music, it's the best music in the world!
