Thirty-nine years ago today (December 1, 1966), the world of bluegrass &
old-time mountain music lost one of our greatest treasures when Carter
Stanley passed away.

He composed & arranged a staggering amount of songs, & added greatly to this
music's repertoire during its formative years, & was one of the finest, if
not THE finest, singer in the genre. Bill Monroe himself said, "Carter had
a pearl in his voice."

Most of today's bluegrass fans were not witness to his charm, but from
everything I've heard in my travels, & seen on the few film clips that
survive, Carter had an engaging personality which he put to excellent use as
front man for the Stanley Brothers band, & was a consummate showman, both on
and off the stage.

I will be listening to the music he left us with throughout the day, & will
be thinking of him. Hopefully all of you will be as well.
