there was some serious questioning of the scope of the forum today, which some of you have noticed. I must inform you that this was caused by a inappropriate welcome message that pinned down the forum topic to Blue Obelisk business only, instead of Open Data, Open Source, and Open Standards in general. One of the users objected against that, and it took me hours to realize what caused that strong reply... Problem was: that inappropriate welcome message does not seem to show when you are logged in, which I was all through the day... so, unfortunately, I never linked that feedback to that bad message. I have now fixed that welcome message:
Welcome to Blue Obelisk Exchange

A place to ask about Open Data, Open Source, and Open Standards. How to perform tasks and solve chemical problems with these, or any other question related to these ideals. The questions do not require to be about the Blue Obelisk at all, unlike the earlier welcome message that was written here before. I will vote myself down for that.

Oh, and remember, any contribution you make is CC0 licensed!
I hope this much better reflect what we actually talked about on the mailing list today, and what we want it to be as community. The above message is up for editing, and at least the note about the 'earlier' version can go in a week or two. I changed it directly after I realized the cause (after personal communication with the commenter), and forgot to copy/paste the original bad message. But it effectively said that messages not about the Blue Obelisk were inappropriate. My intention was always about questions or answers not about the Blue Obelisk *ideals* are not appropriate for the platform... A very much regret my carelessness in my formulation and sincerely apologize for the situation and the confusion.
