Actually, what Craig is referencing (I think) is an effort to totally scrap the 
Open Babel core, in favor of a combined library written in collaboration with 
RDKit. The pieces that we'd bring to the table would be things that have been 
written since Open Eye and we clearly know the contributors.

In any case, both your point and Craig's point is that life would be much 
better if Open Eye were willing to discuss relicensing their code.

Incidentally, I find it ironic that a few years ago, Open Eye was publicly 
bashing InChI and now want to use it.
