Hi, all: I just got my sway bars on Friday. I am planing on installing this parts by myself. After consulting with my E36 Bentley Service Manual. It seems like it is a very easy task. Some how, I think it is not THAT easy. Does anybody know or see how it is installed? Any comments? Do I need alignment after I install the parts? I have the whole suspension parts laying in my basement, I just want to install piece by piece, so I know what has improved or getting worse. thanks in advance. Perry. 95 325is sport. Could someone explain the advantages and disadvantages? (My opinion) but I find my POS 320i (no LSD or ABS) better to drive in the snow than my M3. The M3 gets really loose around corners once the power is applied and the ABS takes forever and a day to bring the car to a stop. I can modulate the brakes on the 320i and shorten the braking distances, the ABS seems to be even worse when there's a bump on the road. I've almost entered intersections from failure to stop when braking because of bumps (and that's in the dry), scary. I'll agree that the LSD is better for not getting stuck in the snow, but I'm apparently missing the rest of it. I'd like to hear an explanation either agreeing or disagreeing (something better than my silly opinion based on only two cars). I had to increase my front tire pressure a lot to make the car neutral again . Is this because the front tires are getting so much more traction that more pressure was needed to make them stick? I was also carrying the unloaded front wheel much more today (better front traction?). Will a larger front sway bar help? Still trying to catch an expertly driven (Dave Schotz), Audi S4. Thanks Tony W 89 M3 PS Thanks to all for the help with those mounts and my toe questions. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Jan 2000 19:30:24 EST From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [uuc] Head Gasket Question I need some advice here, About a week ago I would start it in the morning and it would "sputter" as though it were running on less than four cylinders. This would last about 30 seconds and then idle normally, however it did not do this every morning. Then this morning I went to start her up and it did the same thing only this time bellows of white smoke-really steam emitted from the tailpipe. I turned it off and noticed that there were drops of coolant on the right motor mount, following the path directly above it appears to me that I do have a blown head gasket or cracked head. To anyone who has experienced this before I would appreciate any insights. As one of the many E36 drivers in London, I could blend into the background quite easily. Nowhere was this more strongly felt than in the BMW dealerships of central London, where I became one of the Great Unwashed. In fairness to the many other dealerships around the country, outside London was a different story. > I imagine you must be getting tired of all the Oz sun by > now and pining for an honest English winter! Oz sun? Well, it's been a bit disappointing, only one or two steamy days so far (famous last words). But missing the English winter? No. Never. Never ever :). I know very little about turbocharging plumbing and/or technology, but would the intake system as a whole not have to be optimised for forced induction? > A turbo M5 is not for the faint of heart or wallet. It should have > what, 650 hp or so. Turbocharging the six-throttled E36 M3 is done by some of the wilder tuners (Hamann, Iding Power et al), and at incredible cost. I think around 30,000 DM was the asking price for an Iding M3, and that's without the brake job, suspension job and obligatory tasteless interior/exterior. From memory, most blown M3s kick out around 450 bhp using the 3201cc motor. Given than the M5's motor produces a relaxed 81 bhp per litre - or 3 bhp more per litre than the M42/44 - I'd say around 600 bhp was possible. Also, Brett ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) advises on southern hemispherical E30 M3s: > there's at least a dozen to my knowledge. All converted to RHD. Ah! Maybe I was right about the no-LHD-in-Australia rule! :) The problem with converting M3s to RHD, as I remember, was that the slower 325i rack had to be employed. Given the almost legendary nature of the M3's driver feedback, this would dilute the magic, so to speak. Or are there new tricks I don't know about? > Don't give up hope yet Andy. One of these days, one of these days. But I have to teach the better half how to drive a stick first. Unless someone can go the whole hog and transplant a nice four-speed auto (vomit NOW). I don't recall them ever really blasting anything. They could drive a Yugo GV and call it "A great car for 3,995" or some crap like that. It seems that they candy-coat everything.. I mean ever seen them truly call one car a winner and one car a loser in a comparison test? Like when Car and Driver tested a bunch of $30Kish sedans.. they said what they liked about each car and also what they didnt like and why the losers lost. If they get a car in a comparison that's totally outclassed they say so. If you ever get a chance to read the brooklands reprint book on the E28, they have a reprint of an 84 road test of 528e vs Volvo 242 Turbo vs Peugeot 505 Turbo. They pretty much um it up by saying that they all have different personalities. Umm.. yeah.. I knew that 2.50 ago. What they could have said was stuff like when C&D Drove the 528e and panned it because of the low redline and that is wasn't, in their opinion a worthy successor to the 528i. (BTW An 82 Safari Beige 528e 5-sp was my first car and I loved it dearly). When the 533i came out the next year they loved it and said so. Not a flame on you at all... a total flame on MT. Just my opinion :) Bill I hate: MT Consumer Reports And Cosmo because my girlfriend makes me pick it up for her and I feel like a pervert in the checkout line. ------------------------------ End of [uucdigest] V3 #102 ************************** _________________________________________ | Please visit these UUC-approved BMW parts vendors/service providers: | (listed alphabetically) | Bonneville Motorwerks . http://www.bonnevillemotorwerks.com | Circle Tire Co.
