In theory, the SvcII is simply a SvcI with more services (more of those easily forgotten/neglected items). By this time, your vehicle is pretty well broken in and stabilized (as far as overall operations is concerned). Simple oil changes and air filters are usually all that is required between SvcIIs. That, and everday "leak checking", level checking, and basic awareness of the vehicle's "temperment" can go a long way. Get yourself a cheap SI indicator reset tool for use at your own reasonable oil change intervals, a new filter from the local auto supply, and save yourself some money. Oh, and be nice to the car, and wash it periodically. Give it some well deserved respect, and it will respect you for a long time. IMHO, and GL Norm Celisa wrote: > > Hello, > > I"m new to the list. I hope somebody from this digest can give me some pointers on what to check/replace for 100K maintenance.> Jay, all I can say is, what the hell took you so long? Don't you like the car? At 100K you should just dump it. It's looking at you thinking, "now's the time to get this sucker to spring for all those new parts I've been thinking about". I think it would be worth $5K-$6K to me, I can pick it up Sunday. No? Ok, then at 100K, you should look at the rotors, the shocks and struts, and mounts and bearings. Let the O2 sensor go until it faults without the old disconnect battery for 1 second reset trick. It has a change interval of 90K on your car anyway. Check the lower ball joint/control arm assembly, and plan on its replacement. Change all fluids: trans, diff, PS fluid, brake fluid, oil. Drive another 100K miles. Oh no, Celisa, oil changes are only $ 39.95 and for that they won't reset your meter. Inspection 1 is the glorified $ 199.95 oil change and for that they DO reset your light <g>. > Well I had the oil change, and I'm going in on Saturday to have this light > turned off. Oh no....Insp II ....that's the $ 499.95 even MORE glorifed oil change! If maggots only write tickets because they are forced to, let them say no. If they had any backbone at all in their putrid, maggot infested bodies, they'd stand up for what's right, and 62 in a 55 on a divided interstate is not something that should be punished, so why do they do it ? These pieces of shit write these tickets, turning <sensible> law abiding citizens into criminals. Not only do these tickets cost money directly to the courts, they also cost money in insurance premiums. A single ticket can cost a driver several hundred dollars, more. Why ? Because some maggot 'decided' that person was going too fast. I got a ticket for 80 in a 65, driving a 1999 Porsche 996. Clear interstate highway, moderate traffic, I was in the left lane, passing people at a speed differential of less than 10 mph. In response to my comment that 80 was not dangerous, the maggot opened his eyes wide and said " of course it is" These C*NTS drive piece of shit domestic cars, where anything over 45 mph feels so unstable that it's scary. They then apply that experience to all cars on the road. F*CK em all, KILL em all ! If I had the money, I'd offer a $500K reward to anyone that kills a traffic cop that's sitting in a speed trap. If they want to have anything to do with traffic safety, let's see them actually DRIVE their cars, so they can see morons doing stupid things on the road, instead of sitting at the bottom of long hills on interstate highways where, at certain times of day or night, speeds in excess of 120 mph would not be unsafe, but at any time of day, they are guaranteed to fulfill their "quota" with people travelling 10 mph over the limit. The one regret of my life is that time I had a state police Camaro behind my motorcycle at 140 mph. If I'd slammed the brakes, he would have died. Instead, I just upshifted and cruised on my way. On your car, there is an Inspection service recommended every 15K miles. It alternates between Inspection I and Inspection II, so you get an Inspection II every 30K miles. At 75K miles, you're due for Inspection I. Whether you have this done or not is up to you. Inspection I service is more checking than fixing, inspection II service consist of many more parts changed. Probably your best bet with a car out of warranty is to find an independent in your local area. Ruh-Roh !! There's that pesky braking thread on ABS vs. Threshold Braking! Of course, the operative word there is "perfectly executed", which is almost impossible to do outside of test runs in a straight line. But yes, it is a true statement...during a Skip Barber School a long, long time ago when they used E30 M3's, one of the exercises was to switch the ABS off and do runs, then repeat them with it on. The M3's did stop faster with threshold braking, but we knew exactly where to start our braking and were in a contolled environment. I for one, luv ABS and all the kewl stuff it does NOT do to your car like flat spot the tires, skid your car in a turn, etc. Even the top flight race teams run ABS on their cars. They'd run traction control too, if it were legal (some do anyway, cleverly hidden in the rear end). - - Duane Collie The Seven Sled ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Jan 2000 19:08:22 -0800 From: "PhilBell" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] Re: Center console/arm rest - E30 BMW also sells an dealer installed option of arm rest/beverage holder (even comes with a BMW plastic coffee cup) that mounts over the emergency brake.
