Hi all, I installed the new Jim C cold air intake system (got it from turner
MS) for my 94 325ic. Now, when I hit the gas real hard, the engine sounds
really odd, like metal is hitting metal and it sounds rather hollow as if
something isn't bolted right.

Is this the normal sound you get after you install it? The noise is
completely different if you punch the gas, compared to the stock airbox. At
normal speeds and acceleration, there is no noise difference.

Any similar experiences with anyone else?

I've also got an M3 exhaust and the Jim C chip in the car too.

Regards

Jim,

That is a great story. I just acquired a tank for the same reasons that you
did (dragging around cords etc.). The tank seems sturdy, but my feeble
brain has one more thing to worry about.

My kids are younger than yours. I'll make a note not to tell them about my
concern about the tank exploding, or else I'll end up chasing them around
the neighborhood with a snowballs chance of catching them. OTOH, I am sure
that you have your ways of payback.

You have to admit, the story is hilarious :)

probably not a real good thing to stand up and declare support for a
particular candidate in this forum, the important thing is to VOTE. And ask
 questions! >>

YES Duane, I voted....and I would like to plug getting your vote cards in
like Duane did....BUT I seem to remember alot a flack on the Digest for
discussing CCA Politics in this forum ....so I have refrained...it is a
personal choice after all...we all know the people who are running. I don't
think it serves a purpose to discuss this matter on the Digest.

Any questions or concerns posted by someone could be responded to
"privately"...and that's the best way IMHO.

So, yes indeed VOTE, and if you don't know who to vote for feel free to raise

I am told, by my mechanic, that many years ago, he arrived at his shop to
find an M1 in his parking lot. No note, no keys, just this M1.

Sure enough, after lunch that same day the M1's owner showed up and asked
if Harold could (or would) work on the car - not sure what for, but general
maintenance.

Harold said he could, and ordered some kind of manual for the thing, the
owner agreed to cover the costs of the manual- several hundred dollars back
in the 80's. Harold saw the guy one more time, and nothing since. Harold
still has the manuals and microfiche, I believe.

My E30 one is a gonner and I'd like to get a new one with the nicer

If my memory serves me correctly, which rarely does, wasn't the politics
discussed really more about a lynching (ie modelgate) ?

I think 99% of the people here can have a good discussion. Unfortunately
the remaining 1% are the ones that turn the list into dreck. You see the
same people over and over who probably got an F in 'plays well with others'
in school.

I have voted, twice! I also vote for my wife who is an associate member.
It's tough to decide on a short statement printed in the Roundel, but that
was what we had to go by. It would have been nice to have a open real-time
debate but we don't. You always get the people who whine that, it's not
fair, I don't have a computer. But do 50000+ people even care? How many
people vote? I'm guessing a few thousand. Anyway. . .

I got it down to 3 choices. One person I felt had interests focused on one
thing and not the general population. Another person had some great ideas.
I like standardizing some aspects of driving schools. But I wonder how much
of an issue it is. I've only been in the club a few years and am fortunate
to be in a large chapter. It's something that shouid be considered. Then
there is a third person who to me reminds be of Steve Jobs scenerio. Hey
Gil [past CEO of Apple], what they hell have you done to my company? I'll
take over from here. I think the Club needs some gentle corrections to get
on course. In the few years I've been here it seems to have been a bit
rocky. I have nothing to compare it against, just my newbie perception.

Subject: [uuc] <ADMIN> CCA Politics on the UUC Digest

Thanks to Scott Blazey for reminding me to make this post.

The question has been posed to me of whether CCA Politics discussions
should be allowed on the UUC Digest in this election time.

Whereas I think some important ideas can be expressed to a wide
audience here, I think it is also critical to realize that not all UUC
Digest subscribers are even in the US, let alone particularly
interested.

So here is what I propose: each candidate may feel free to make a
statement, how they feel about particularl issues, etc. This, no
doubt, will elicit all sorts of responses from UUC subscribers. The
candidate should take a day or so after the responses come to fuly
form a single response. No debates via posting, just a single clear
issue to the counter-questions.

I believe this to be the simplest and fairest way to allow CCA
political discussion without flooding the UUC Digest.

Please use the <CCA> tag in all posts and responsive questions, this
makes it easy for uninterested subscribers to skip past the
discussions.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Subject: [uuc] cleaning underneath car

What is the best way to clean the salt and dirt from underneath your car.
Many car washes will do this but I really don't want to take my car through
one of them. I've considered going to one of those self washing stations
and just sticking the power washer underneath it but I'm afraid of getting
something wet that I shouldn't. Is there any way to get it clean without
getting any of the electronics wet?

The only potential drawback to using a power washer under the car is
that it may drive corrisive liquids into nooks and cranies where
water may not enter under "normal" conditions. If you can find a
garden hose that isn't frozen, use it instead, otherwise the power
washer is probably your best alternative. As for the concern of
getting something wet that shouldn't get wet, it's a non-issue.
Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to drive the car on a wet day (or
you'd be driving a British car).

No - you just need to know what the .rm file is called by looking at
the code in the .ram file. Type the path name into your browser and
it downloads just like any other file.
