BA Brian, as you are changing the rotors anyway, get a large, heavy hammer and pound the back of the rotor until it breaks away from the stripped bolt. Then you have two choices, either try Vise Grips to remove the bolt (you now have the ability to grab the outside of the head), or, Grind the head off and don't worry about it. The bolt is there purely to secure the rotor during wheel changes, etc. Living without it won't kill you, especially since the wheel centering tool in the took kit will do the same thing if you need to change a wheel on the side of the road. As they warm up, the seal to the metal pipes. You'll need to remove the air flow meter / filter box and the intake plenum. Don't try to remove the boots from the plenum, you'll never get them back on. Remove the 10 mm nuts securing the flanges to the throttle bodies and the various hoses, and lower bracket secured to the plenum. Pull the plenum and you'll be amazed at how much room there is on that side of the engine. Replace the hoses in their entirety, use 8mm fuel injection hose, BMW sells it by the meter. You'll want two meters. You're driving a relatively expensive, high performance vehicle. DO NOT go to your local autoparts store and buy 5/16 fuel line ! The fuel hose must be rated in excess of 100 psi. Get new clamps also. Mike, It's the same with my '97. I think I remember reading in the manual that they said not to bother letting the car run to warm it up - just start it and go, keeping the revs down for a while until the water temp is warmed up. It doesn't explain why it wouldn't warm up like any other car, but I've found it to be true. - - John ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Feb 2000 12:30:12 -0500 From: "Brett Anderson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] Re: ABS in reverse The ABS light only comes on if a fault is detected. Either you were looking at your ASC light flickering as the car tried to get traction, or, your ASC was off, your wheels were turning at different speeds (front to rear) and therefore, the ABS system decided there was a fault with one or more of the wheel speed sensors. As the fault would have disappeared immediately the 4 wheels started turning at the same (within specified tolerances) speed, the light would have gone off. BMW didn't just change the body. They also changed a few other things. Your E30 has an old 3 channel, select low, Bosch system. The 95 M3 possibly has a later Bosch 4 channel, but more likely has a Teves, 4 channel, select low system. ;.-) Brett Anderson www.koalamotorsport.com Home of the E30 M3 CD-ROM repair manual ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Feb 2000 12:45:47 -0500 From: "Grant Low" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [uuc] Re: Illegal U-turn Thanks guys for all your help. I plan on talking to a lawyer and taking some pictures today. I still don't think I violated that statue, and that the officer has misunderstood that statute completely. I hope no one else has gotten an undeserved ticket for doing the same thing I did. It makes me real nervous, being 18 and a "rowdy" (I'm not at ALL) college student in this town, and going to court. I've only been in a courthouse twice, both for administrative stuff. I'll keep you updated on what I can find out about ths situation. I have written out some questions to ask a lawyer when I find one. Here's the list so far: Is the statute stated on the ticket the only one that I could be charged with violating for this incident? Can a ticket be modified once written? Can one ticket be dismissed but another issued for the same incident? Does it cost extra to challenge the ticket? Does it matter who prevails? Are there court fees to challenge it? What are the chances the officer would dismiss it? Should I talk with him first? What are the chances the judge will side with me? If I didn't violate the specified statute, can I be charged with violating any other one? Most of these are probably Indiana-specific, but I'd still like to know what your input on them is, if you'd like.. I think I'm going to talk to my Government prof from last semester. He's run for public office before, and knows most of the county officials, so if he doesn't know the answers, he could point me in the right direction. Wish me luck on March 6th!
