I have seen carbon colored rims look great on a red car, as in Rick Stormer's Henna E30 M3. On a black car, I think the darkest I would want to go is the E39 M5 rims color. Cool finish. What I think would look good is just to have a shop make up a color slightly darker than the stock silver. Subtle, yet different. I think that's the way to stand out. Not that "import crowd" crap. I'm at almost 48500 miles. Since I'm popping out of gear I am requesting a new clutch slave unit. In replacing a clutch slave, should I expect to bring my own ATE brake fluid? Other items I would like them to look closely at are o water pump o ball joints o lower lip (already had one replaced for pealing) o rear hatch struts (ti has a hatch) o seat sometimes seems loose o motor mounts Is there anything else that I should have them look closely at? The service advisor has asked me to bring in whatever I have read that seems to be problems with this model. Don't THEY know what often goes wrong? Sometimes I wonder if I know more about the car then they do. I don't like the polished or chrome look at all. I've always wanted to have all black wheels, either black hardcoat anodize or black paint. I think it gives a menacing, race car look - many CART, F1, and sportscar racing cars have this look (check out the all black wheels on the '99 BMW LMR). I almost did it to the OZ Monte Carlo wheels I bought last sprint, but ran out of $$ :( I do agree with Alex that you still have to clean the wheels. Brake dust will corrode the wheel. I was on Rt. 211 in the Shennandoah Mts. (major state route in Rappahannock Co.) when rounding a curve zap I get hit by moving radar late at night. He turns around an 30 sec. later comes up behind me, so I pull over and turn on the lights, put hands on wheel, etc. He says 73/55, where are you going, etc. Now having a license under probation and being familiar with all the other excuses I and others have tried and failed, I decide to be honest this time. "Sorry officer, I was looking for a restroom (I was) and know I was speeding some. I know I shouldn't be speeding, I do drivers schools, blah blah, I'm on probation and this will kill me, ..." "Okay, sit tight while I check on some things." He comes back and says, "Well, you have 12 pts., so I'll give you a break. Are you aware you have an exhaust leak, it sounds rumbly?" "Oh do I?" Blip throttle - "Yes, under the engine." "Well, I'll have it checked ASAP." He crosses out speeding and writes in defective equipment, no points, etc. "Thank you officer! I'll keep the speed down." ;-) Looking back, the other officers gave me a moment to explain myself when stopped, like they're allowing you to confess, and when you either deny anything or just say you weren't paying attention, well, you're gonna get a citation then. Try the honest approach and see what happens. John Fountaine? > Gary Lin National Capital Ch. I like the idea of a metalic grey since my car is Delphin Grey. But I've also been toying with the idea of a "dirty" pearl white (a tad grayer than pearl, more like the color of bone with a iridescent look). However, I don't really want the rims to draw too much attention. The rims are currently chromed (yuk). Some of the chrome is peeling off so I need to remove the finish before I get them powder coated. Is removing the chrome simple as sandblasting? or do I need to take them to a metal finisher. Thanks.
