BMW actually sells coloured wheels - the 17" version of the smoothed 5-spoke design that comes standard on Z3 2.8s (or used to, in European markets at any rate). Cromodora is the OEM, should anyone wonder. Anyway, you can get them (I think) in bright red, dark metallic green, dark metallic blue and black. The 1999/2000 accessories brochure has some pictures, and they look a bit iffy IMHO. The dark green ones make the Z look like some kind of army reconnaissance vehicle design reject (great if you like that sort of thing I suppose). Doesn't really go with the cute chrome gills and beige roof. Some catch fire, some just burn out, and some (like mine) don't work for some other reason (A pillar connector pins, door lock computer area.. etc) Heater is a big resistor bonded to the C clip which is used to hold the lock cylinder in place. It is controlled via a relay which is operated when holding the door handle up all the way. delayed light: pulling up on door handle should turn on internal overhead lights.. and they should stay on for 30 seconds or a minute or something like that chris pawlowicz '89 325i '74 2002 ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Feb 2000 18:35:25 -0500 From: "Rob Levinson - UUC Motorwerks" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [uuc] Re: coloured wheels As David Chen informed me, 7-series could be ordered with body-colored "throwing star" covers on the 17" wheels. I currently own a 95 325i with the sport package and was wondering if there was much difference between the sport package susp. and an H/R Bilstien upgrade. Performance wise and lowering wise. I would appreciate input from anyone who has done this upgrade with a 325i with the sport package. I would also like to know if this upgrade is stiffer than the stock M3 suspension upgrade and which is better for a daily driver with spirited driving. Thanks Alot! However, I prefer a product from BG called In-Force. Without a doubt the best penetrating oil I've used (wonder what kind of smart aleck comments I'll get to that sentance? ;) ). If you can find a place that sells BG products (they make a lot of other nifty products too), it's worth giving a try. Maybe some of the "finer" import parts stores will have it. Keith Way ================================================== I did a big brake conversion on an SUV this past weekend and the most difficult part of the whole job was removing the old brake hoses. The shop I was working at had BG Penetrating Oil and it was not the miracle product we were looking for (not that PB Blaster, Kroil, Rost Off or any other would have been better). The flare wrench rounded off the fitting and heat/vice grips was the only thing that finally worked. Boy, I hate removing old brake lines. I have never >looked into this conversion and would be interested if this is possible. >- -- >'87 325is > >[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unfortunately I cannot answer the question regarding conversion from an '87 to an '88. Conversion of an '87 air dam onto an '86 should be a piece of cake, I'd guess. I've had both an '87 and a '90, but I never cared about switching. But FWIW... The key difference between the air dam on an '86 325es and '87 325is is that the "is" has extra slots in the center for air to pass through the oil cooler. The 325es does not have an oil cooler. The '88 and later lower valence design is very clever. The upper portion on the 325i and 325is is the same. It is made of metal and has integrated, flush mounted fog lights. The difference is in the lower portion. The "i" simply has a one inch high black plastic strip, attached by a whole bunch of plastic clips. The strip, sans clips, cost me about $90 at discount 4+ years ago. The "is" lower portion is taller, more so at the outside and less so towards the center, and I believe it also attaches with a whole bunch of plastic clips. It is much sportier looking, partly because it is body color instead of black. It would have cost me (4+ years ago) about $180 at discount, not including the paint. Often when owners of an '88 or later "is", especially lowered ones, bash or scrape off their air dams on driveway entrances, speed bumps, etc., they replace them with the "i" lower strip because 1) it is cheaper, and 2) it is less likely to be removed or damaged in the same type of incident. If the judge allows you to go to traffic school, the ticket still goes on your record but is masked from viewing... When I checked a couple years ago, the DMV did not enforce the 18-month policy; rather it was up to the courts, which depended on the defendant's honesty as to whether they had attended traffic school. And both masked and unmasked tickets dropped off the perp's record after 36 months. YMMV.
