The "rice boy" thread is now CLOSED. Please use terms
such as "import car crowd" or "racerboy" (as suggested
by Rob) instead to avoid this. This discussion was
beaten to death a while back and will not continue.
This is the one and only warning.

Thank you.

Subject: Re: [uuc] Re: "RiceBoy"

New to the digest I have to chime in here.....

A: I don't understand the definition of "RiceBoy". As stated by some of
the digest members it is an owner of a vehicle which has modified his car
strictly for cosmetic purposes..... Well, I have to say that living in the
same city as GReddy, HKS, and Stillen headquarters, I have been roasted on
numerous occasions by "Riceboys" in Integras while driving my M3. Further,
I have been in my friend's 1995 RX-7 Twin Turbo R2 while he has gotten
roasted by the same cars. The reality is that a lot of these "RiceBoy" cars
(while admittetly being gaudy) are extremely fast. Typically that "phat"
exhuast pipe is attached to a "phat" header which is attached to a Japanese
version of the integra motor which also has a "phat" GReddy turbo system and
"phat" intercooler attached to it.

B: Being that I went to college at the University of Califorina Irvine (UCI)
which is also commonly referred to as University of Civic and Integras or
University of Chinese Immigrants and the majority of my friends are Asian
(ornamental for you folks from Texas) as is my girlfriend of four years.....
I asked a couple of them what they thought of the term "RiceBoy" and they
found it humorous and not offensive.

C: For those of you who bash people who put what you refer to as "M3" body
parts on their cars.... Well obviously you haven't been in the BMW scene
for very long. The facts are that the M-Technic body kit on all of our M3s
(yes, I have a 1995 E36 M3) has been available to the public longer then the
E36 M3 has been in production (Europe Included here). When I purchased my
first BMW, a 1993 325is, the next generation M3 being available in the US
was a big question mark. In fact, there were no pictures of the car
available at the time. However, BMW did make available the
M-Technic/M-Technik body kit which could be purchased through the dealer.
This was not unsual tradition for BMW as they had also made an M-Technic
body kit for the E30. I had this kit, including the mirrors, applied to my
E36 325is because that grey painted "stone guard" strip along the bottom of
the car was unsightly and the kit simply made the car look better. In fact,
1998 E36 328i/ic models with the sports package started coming with the
M-Technic kit (minus the mirrors) from the factory.

D: As far as placing the ///M logo in front of the model designation, I see
nothing wrong with doing this. Original BMW Motorsports cars had done
exactly the same thing. It simply designated a car which had been slightly
modified by BMW Motorsports on a one off basis for executives of BMW or
special customers. It was only later when the M1 and then original M5 was
produced that they started manufacturing the cars in relatively large
numbers and designated them with M1/M5/M3/M6.... If someone were truly
being a poser they would simply remove their model designation and put the
entire M logo on the car..... For instance, a 318is that has ///M3 on the
trunk - here we have a poser. To me... ///M318is simply tells me the person
is a BMW enthusiasts....

No such story. I just like making fun of myself lately :)

But the condom story is real. I still get red faced thinking about that
one.

Subject: [uuc] BMW 528i

Hello,

I am new to this list and I am about to purchase a 528i 5-Speed. I have
previously owned a fully optioned 1974 Bavaria which was a most excellent
car! I like the 6 cylinder car as I see the 540i as overkill, considering
that it would be a rare day when you would get to utilize the full potential
of that car, or even the 528i for that matter. What does concern me about
the 528i is that the 193 HP engine is rather modest in terms of power. I do
not need the power of the 540i, but at the same time I do not want to have
Camry's and Maxima's pulling away from me. I have heard rumors that the 2001
528i will offer a larger inline 6, possibly a 3.0 liter motor, making the
car a 530i. I would definitely be bummed out if I bought a new car now and
this Fall BMW offered a 3.0 liter car (or 3.2), with a little more
performance. Is there anyone out there that might be able to shed a light on
this subject? If there are no plans for a larger displacement 6 cylinder I
would just assume purchase a car now.

Subject: [uuc] <e30> Automatic transmission life expectancy

Folks,

I was trying to think of something to post to
extend the Rice thread, but since I came up
with nothing, I have a BMW related question ;-)

I'm helping my cousin shop for an e30, and
despite my many attempts to convince him
to get a manual 'box, he insists it has to be an
automatic. What is an average life expectancy
for the automatic tranny on a 6-cylinder e30?
Has it changed significantly over the e30's
production life? Are there warning signs I can
check for impending failure?

Thanks,

Scott

Subject: [uuc] Re: [E36M3] teenie Jim and the Shop-Vac

Sheesh....just pulling my leg like his Chevy engine transplate project...DOH!

Well, if you really must know, here goes....(keep in mind that this in no way
involves private body parts...so all you perverts can just page down or hit the
delete key).

...now, I haven't discouraged you so far, let's go...

So back in my junior high school years, I used to wrench on my little 1/8th
scale nitromethanol burner..the Kyosho Turbo Burns. I had just gotten a set of
new tires and wheels for it (something like $100...yikes!). I mounted the
tires (no big Hunter machine for that chore) and mounted the combo onto the
land rocket. Go outside, use the outboard starter (Indy style) to start the
car. Blip the throttle....bbbbzzzzst....bbbzzzzzst... Slowly idle it to the
street and let 'er rip. BWAAAAAAAAA!!!! Wait a sec...what's this? The car
was still in front of me. There was so much torque that the wheels were
spinning inside the tires!

DOH!

I head back into the basement and bust out the bottle of cyano-glue... Gotta
clue those mutha-f*ckin tires to the rims. I get the 10mm wrench out and spin
off all four wheels. Plop one tire/wheel combo onto the table and jab a small
flat head screwdriver into the seam. I place a few drops of the mystery glue
into the gap and move the flathead to a different section of the tire.
Cool...flip the tire and do the other side. Just when I was about done and the
screwdriver was still wedged in the seam, I pull the flathead out and the tire
snapped back to the wheel. What happens when a tire snaps back into place with
some glue in the middle? Well, in slo-mo...I see this droplet of the stuff
come flying towards my eye. Whammo! It hits me square in the eye.

Holy sh*t!!!!!

Thank gawd I was wearing a contact lens! I took it out and there was a
"splash" pattern on it! All was not good, though. My eye irritated the living
hell outta me. I didn't want to tell my parents because they would have yelled
at me, so I used up a bottle of Visine to try to bring comfort back. No such
luck. So I told my parents and they took me to the hospital.

$500 later, I was doing okay. They sat me in front of a modified sink faucet
and made me rinse my eye out for 10 minutes....and you thought opening your
eyes under water was bad! Yup...$500 just for that.

A subsequent visit to an eye doctor told me that my cornea was scratched and
that it would take a little while for it to heal. He also told me that I was
lucky for wearing the contact lens and that if the glue fused to my eye, I
would have to wait for the surface layer of the cornea to dissolve and
regenerate (something like months of healing).

Ok....not quite as spectacular as Jim with the Latina hottie, but people always
laugh when I share the story. You're laughing with me, right? Not at me, eh?
=) But...from that day on, I've had a healthy respect for eye protection!
Never mounted tires again without wearing safety goggles ;)

Then there's the story of
- - 'lil Chester in the department store with women and cleavage...
- - 'lil Chester getting his head stuck in the fence at the school playground.
- - 'lil Chester picking a fight with a dude twice his size and having that dude
sit on me while pummeling my head.
- - pubescent Chester trying to impress a girl on the stairs of the subway...that
one was painful...
- - pubescent Chester trying to impress a girl tubing down a hill with a
friend....that was painful and bloody..

...man, it's amazing I made it this far.
