Josh, It's clear to me that your car is suffering from post-max. redline trauma and is signaling it's displeasure in the only way it knows how to communicate, through the wipers. I assume you were boucing off the rev-limiter a coupla times on the way home with reckless regard for the 'feelings' of your engine. If that is indeed the case, then I would suspect that your BMW is trying to tell you that if you insist on running it hard, it needs (at the very least) something to make it feel better......like a set of shiny new Fikse FM10's. If you continue to insist on trips to the redline, then you must reassure your car that you do love it, either by lavishing it with upgrades (like the Fikses), or spending some time with it in the evening in the garage.....just you, your car, candlelight, and some Rolling Rock and Doritos. Soft music also helps. Failure to pay heed to these warnings will most assuredly result in your fuel gauge going funky after filling up, yet one more way of your car expressing it's inner displeasure with your driving habits. The alignment shop I use has no special weights- they use sand bags or barbell weights when I bring in my 325is like your car (well, sort of like your car), the same with my E30 M3. The weight in the driver's seat approximates you- I believe it is165 lbs give or take, the trunk weight is the equivalent of gas- I think that's about 80 pounds. In the worst case, have someone of approximately that weight sit in the car, and bring it in pretty full of gas. Someone on the list may know the specific wieghts- I don't remember. Also- your car has adjustments possible in the rear- which needs to be aligned first before they do the front. The guys I use, while they do good work for me, are not rocket scientists, and they don't even specialize in German cars. They are, however, an alignment only shop. You could tell them to remove the rocks from their head and use those <g>.....Methinks you haven't found the right folks just yet. Josh, it sounds like the wiper relay could be the culprit. I have not experienced your problem, but I have had a related problem, and it was the relay - sort of. It happened like this (harp music and image goes cloudy as we change scenes, just like we've seen on Late Night with David Letterman). I was on my way to work on a foggy morning, and the windshield needed an occasional wipe. After about the third manually-actuated wipe (press down on the wiper switch lever), I switched the wipers to intermittant, and right about that time I hit a bump in the road. Well, the wipers went to full speed, and the washers started squirting their little guts out, and no matter what I did with the switch at that point, it just kept WIPING and SQUIRTING and WIPING and SQUIRTING! So I pulled over, shut off the engine (wipers and washers stopped), and opened the hood. I'm not sure what I thought I'd find, but I thought I'd just look over the fuses and stuff. I immediately found the problem (if only all my troubleshooting could go that fast). Some models, including my (then) 1987 E30 325is, have little holders in the underside of the fuse box lid to hold extra fuses. And, of course, I had been keeping spares in those slots. Well, when the car hit the bump, a fuse worked loose out of the lid slot and slid under the wiper relay, where it shorted out some contacts and put the thing into hyper mode. I removed the wayward fuse and everything returned to normal. Needless to say, I no longer keep my spare fuses on the underside of the fuse box lid. That aside, all the wiper functions go through the relay. Try replacing it (they aren't that expensive) and see if that fixes the problem. >Date: Fri, 4 Feb 2000 09:53:47 -0800 >From: "Josh Murray" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Subject: [uuc] Here's a new one!? > >See what you think about this: > >Last night I had my wipers on my '90 325is on the intermittent speed and was >driving along the freeway (read constant speed) when all of the sudden my >wipers started going the top speed.
