I thought Kielbasa was a `Polish Sausage' - Bratwurst-boy would fit better,
no? :o)

I ran my 87 535i's vin number thru the site when I read about it here and it
showed no problems for my car. Then as a test, I ran the vin # for a '90
Buick I bought new and my daughter n law totaled when it had almost 250,000
mi on it. Carfax showed my title, a WV salvage title, two KY salvage titles,
then a KY salvage title showing only 122,000 mi. Guess that web site does
what it is supposed to do...

UUC Motorwerks has a good writeup on this in their tech tips section
that includes the torque specs for the fasteners (thanks, Rob and
Ben!).
<http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/html_techtip/techtips/e36_xbrace.htm>
Quick answer: 50 ft-lbs for the M10 bolts, 20 ft-lbs for the M8.

I had my car washed, and it completely stopped. I don't understand this. Is
there some type of default in the 94 138i's, that they can't be washed
underneath. What I did was take it to a car wash. I've experienced this
twice at this car wash, while not at all at others.

The shock-loading on the drivetrain from putting it back into gear seems to
me to overwhelm the benefits of any reduction in heat generated from idling
in neutral. With a manual gearbag you can go for the gas and gear at the
same time, with clutch in; if you try this in a slushbox it goes 'clunk'
into gear because you've already revved it off idle, this can measurably
shorten your transmission life. Newer cars won't go into gear unless
you're on the brake, slowing things down even further.

Meant 'automatic' transmission, not 'manual'. Sorry 'bout that, Chief.
It's preferable to get down a gear before the corner, so that if the
transmission isn't 100% prompt about pulling its downshift, at least it's
done before you're turning.
