Maybe you flooded the engine. Maybe the water shorted out an exposed
wire. Maybe you should elaborate first as to what model BMW you drive
and any un-stock things you might have done to it. Still, I would
never bring my bimmer to an automatic car wash... <shudder>

Recently my car has not been cooperating. The idle is rough, rises to
12-1300 RPM when it gets warm, but the thing is that it now shudders when I
step on the gas. It's OK just driving along- it's not the speed that does
it- but the more I press on the gas, the worse it gets. It's also not
accellerating as smoothly or quickly as it should.
I'm really not sure what could bo going on with the gas=shudder connection.
The car is an 87 325

my guess is that the A032's are pretty loud regarding road noise. i would
recommend getting an extra pair of rims and getting dedicated tires to race
with. i personally got 16" rear rims with drag radials for racing, but there
are other options. for street tires, i chose the yokohama avs sports. they
seem to do real well without road noise.

<opinion>

Personally if you haven't done many driving schools, I'd stay with stock tires.
I think the extra feedback that stock tires give can be very beneficial.
I've seen people show up at the track, the one with turns, for their first
school with so much more car than they can handle. They prepared for school
by buying sticky tires, some have put in superchargers, adjusting the front
end, new sway bars all before learning how to drive. Since I don't know
your experience level, my comments are based on a novice and not a
reflection on you.

I'm assuming when you say driving school you are not talking about a racing
school. CCA chapters host driving schools. I feel I am learning to handle
my car better at faster speeds so when I'm on the street at lower speeds I
will be able to react faster and know what to do. Sort of like practicing
stalls in an airplane. Once you can recognize the eminent stall you can
react without panicing. Since I drive on the street with stock tires,
that's what I want to use on the track. Sometimes a driving school is more
than a driving school. It feels great to pass a car that you have been
chasing down for 20 minutes just before the checkered flag is waved. I
guess there is some racing in there, even if it's just a weekend warrior
wanna-be boy-racer.

Tires for the strip, I assume drag strip. Can't offer any opinion there.

Now that was a funny one Doctor. I agree. Over the weekend, I took the E28
em five up to redline a copula times and nailed the rev limiter. I have
only had the car for a few months and have not really nailed it yet. Well,
I was surprised to hit the limiter since the car is supposed to have a Dinan
chip in it....and I even have the old stock chip still in the Dinan case.
So, the Dinan chips don't eliminate the rev limiter? Hmmm....or do I not
even have the chip?

And Doctor, I will tell you that after this post.max redline trauma, I took
her home and washed her down real nice. Played some music and had a drink
with her. She never complained once.

Subject: RE: [uuc] Dinan & Conforti Rev Limiters

The Dinan chip, like the Conforti chip, has a rev-limiter BUT it is
set at 7200 rpms which is over the roughly 6900 rpm limit set by BMW.
The biggest drawback to the higher redline is that the OE harmonic
balancer is balanced to "only" 7000 rpms. For cars that are
routinely drive to the 7200 rpm redline, there have been stories of
the crank nut wallowing out the hub and thus ruining the crank.

Hmmmm....can't we all just get along? =)

It's really strange that anyone (of asian decent or otherwise) would get
offended by the term. Perhaps it's just because I'm confident in myself and
I
like to do things with a tasteful manner.

So lessee....what do I consider a riceboy? Anyone who:
- - - has a low performance car put blue lights in the turn signals and
headlights
(that actually hinder nighttime vision and annoy the hell out of other
motorists)
- - - puts a wing on the car that is all show (and it usually more than 6
inches
high) and doesn't do damn for performance or if it did, it would be so
unbalanced that at actualy high speed, would probably make the car lose
control
because there was no downforce in the front (remember, if you put the LTW
wing
on with the spacers, you need to put the snow plow front splitters on....but
that's only if you're serious about performance and racing).

<snip>

Well said Chester...but you forgot two items on the wing, it DOES add 5-10hp
(and they have the dyno slips to prove it!!!). It does add additional
downforce, equivalent to the weight of the wing....

Loved the comment about wheelie bars....HAHAHAHA

I would be very interested in the results of an independent test like this;
same car, same day, same humidity and temperature, especially with that
engine since I have a 535is. BTW, which part of the country do you reside?

Wanted to thank all the folks that organised this for a GREAT time,
and Jim C, and Josh for making it. Like chester, mentioned, finally got
to put a face to the names. Saw Ben and the BAMBISLAYER in flesh
and blood. So the bambislayer DOES exist. Trust me. :)

And now for a question, while Josh was burning Conforti chip for me,
he mentioned the M3 muffler was better (free flowing ) than the stock
325i muffler. So the question is: what difference has anyone felt with
the chip and an M3 muffler vs. stock? How does the M3 'fler help?

thanks,

Ps. Now I'd really like to get the car dynoed with the new JimC Chip. Anyone
know of a reasonable place in the NY/NJ area? The car does seem to run
smoother with the new chip. Although I haven't really pushed it, to see
