Any suggestions? <opinion> Personally if you haven't done many driving schools, I'd stay with stock tires. I think the extra feedback that stock tires give can be very beneficial. I've seen people show up at the track, the one with turns, for their first school with so much more car than they can handle. They prepared for school by buying sticky tires, some have put in superchargers, adjusting the front end, new sway bars all before learning how to drive. Since I don't know your experience level, my comments are based on a novice and not a reflection on you. I'm assuming when you say driving school you are not talking about a racing school. CCA chapters host driving schools. I feel I am learning to handle my car better at faster speeds so when I'm on the street at lower speeds I will be able to react faster and know what to do. Sort of like practicing stalls in an airplane. Once you can recognize the eminent stall you can react without panicing. Since I drive on the street with stock tires, that's what I want to use on the track. Sometimes a driving school is more than a driving school. It feels great to pass a car that you have been chasing down for 20 minutes just before the checkered flag is waved. I guess there is some racing in there, even if it's just a weekend warrior wanna-be boy-racer. Tires for the strip, I assume drag strip. Can't offer any opinion there. </opinion> ...steven low time stoodent 318ti-fest in the MD area http://www.318ti.org/ti-fest2000/ All models invited http://www.servicecounts.net list your dealer service comments ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 7 Feb 2000 05:37:24 -0800 (PST) From: Sean Cain <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] PTG Open House Photos... Now that was a funny one Doctor. I agree. Over the weekend, I took the E28 em five up to redline a copula times and nailed the rev limiter. I have only had the car for a few months and have not really nailed it yet. Well, I was surprised to hit the limiter since the car is supposed to have a Dinan chip in it....and I even have the old stock chip still in the Dinan case. So, the Dinan chips don't eliminate the rev limiter? Hmmm....or do I not even have the chip? And Doctor, I will tell you that after this post.max redline trauma, I took her home and washed her down real nice. Played some music and had a drink with her. She never complained once. The biggest drawback to the higher redline is that the OE harmonic balancer is balanced to "only" 7000 rpms. For cars that are routinely drive to the 7200 rpm redline, there have been stories of the crank nut wallowing out the hub and thus ruining the crank. - --- "Cagann, Alexander" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I was surprised to hit the limiter since the car is supposed to > have a Dinan > chip in it....and I even have the old stock chip still in the Dinan > case. > So, the Dinan chips don't eliminate the rev limiter? Perhaps it's just because I'm confident in myself and I like to do things with a tasteful manner. So lessee....what do I consider a riceboy? Anyone who: - - - has a low performance car put blue lights in the turn signals and headlights (that actually hinder nighttime vision and annoy the hell out of other motorists) - - - puts a wing on the car that is all show (and it usually more than 6 inches high) and doesn't do damn for performance or if it did, it would be so unbalanced that at actualy high speed, would probably make the car lose control because there was no downforce in the front (remember, if you put the LTW wing on with the spacers, you need to put the snow plow front splitters on....but that's only if you're serious about performance and racing). <snip> Well said Chester...but you forgot two items on the wing, it DOES add 5-10hp (and they have the dyno slips to prove it!!!). It does add additional downforce, equivalent to the weight of the wing....
