Jim's getting (gotten) married. Great news....... maybe Jim can now develop a
performance chip for the "gentler sex", one that'll boost performance but on
regular fuel, and cure those "nagging" little torque problems but still remain
"garage friendly" and willing to rev at a moments notice.

Just a joke....OK. : )

We've all been there. Maybe he should start saying NO so folks won't begin
making plans and arranging sites for him. If you've been on the list any
length of time, you would know this isn't an isolated occurrence.

Making excuses for him is fine, but the bottom line is he has said he would
do something and hasn't followed through. Numerous times. We're all
overloaded at times and I'm sure everyone has done this before. Doesn't
make is okay to the folks who spent time arranging his visits though.

Any volunteers to be his personal secretary?

I keep having to remind y'all of the proper Bimmerhead philosophy:

You buy a BMW because you want a sports car, but you need a back seat.

Hey, it isn't my fault that BMW designed a couple of cars where they plum
forgot the back seat! Is that MY fault? I think not.

Boys and girls,

Here's your chance to get rid of those TRXs and upgrade to a quality
rim/tire package. These rims will fit all 6 series, as well as 5 series
(although rear fender rolling will probably be necessary on E28s), E32 7
series, and probably E30 M3s (but might need spacers).

For Sale, from my '88 635 CSi, 1 set of 16X8 ET11 BBS 3 piece
cross-spoke rims. They're in excellent shape, though not perfect (minor
curb rash on 1 or 2 of them), and are straight and true. These are the
high-dollar 3 piece rims with the bolts around the gold centers.
Screw-in BBS bolt covers and the removal tool are included. Even the lug
bolts, and BMW locks, if you want them. In other words, complete.

Can be had with or without Yokohama 245/45-16 AVS Sports, although if
they need to be shipped, I'd suggest getting the tires anyway, to
protect the rims from potential shipping damage. If you take the tires,
I'll have a new spin balance done. The Yoks are maybe 1/2 done.

I'm in Santa Clara, zip 95051, if you want to figure out shipping costs.
Point your browser at www.bimmerheads.com, and follow the Gallery link
to see a couple not-very-good pics of the Red Six with these rims and
tires.

I don't really know what their market value is, so please feel free to
make me a reasonable offer.

Thanks,

Yes, they do. As for the E23, E24 and E28 (and probably also the E12),
while the wheels fit, the tires are too tall and, in some cases, too wide.
This is probably why the original posting only said "wheels will also
fit...".

Ha. I never knew Dunlop made a Snow Qualifier. What kind of "qualifying"
would one be doing in the snow? I can only imagine, and what I imagine
would involve something with studs...

Looking to buy a 1993-95 325.

The car has to be a 5-speed and less than 100k miles. The less options the
car has the better.

Kelly Blue Book's retail value for a 100k mile 1993 325i is $12.5k. That
is the ballpark I am looking at. If you want more (because of
modifications or anything) ignore this.

Are you suggesting that the car will actually run with an inoperative
in-tank fuel pump? Seems like this should be easy to check. If it is
working properly, would I be able to hear it if I pull up the carpet in the
trunk?

Fuel filter is another good suggestion.>>>>>>>>>.

Mine did! Just puts an extra load on the main pump. You have to pull the mat
and the access cover. First check for incoming voltage, and then try the
screwdriver in the ear to listen for a hum.

Different strokes for different folks, but this is *exactly* why I scoured

There are a TON (hee hee) of nice features to the newer, heavier cars, but it

Subject: [uuc] M5? Viper? Are you joking?

The M5 vs Viper story is tickling my risibilities, not just because the
argument is about one car I can't even buy and another that costs nearly a
quarter of a million local dollars.

This argument is like comparing an E46 318i and a Lotus Elise. Both have 118
bhp and cost about the same. But one is a luxurious mini-limo, one is an
out-and-out, single-purpose sports car. I can't think of a poorer match,
myself. Perhaps the M5 ought to be measured against Chrysler's fastest
4-door sedan (after a trip to J.C. Whitney to load it up with modifications
to bring it to US$80k). Then conduct a long-term test again in 100,000
miles.

Also for those that missed this thread the first time round, the claim of
1.2 lateral g was based on ability at the track, not based on skidpan
figures. I am sorry that BMW did not apply to the almighty Car & Driver to
provide proof of its roadholding ability. I would imagine, given the
extremely tight laws governing advertisements in countries where the M5 is
sold, that there is probably some documentation somewhere that says the M5
can pull 1.2 g. No laws are more anally-retentive that those administered by
the humourless jobsworths at the Advertising Standards Authority in the UK,
where the 1.2 g advert has been running for several months. And the ASA
would love to shut BMW down (BMW was the UK's scapegoat for mismanagement
and poor QA at Rover during its brief bout of rare patriotism about a year
or two ago).

I imagine that there are several cars out there - CLK GTR, 360 Modena, Z
coupe, Viper - that can pull at least 1.2 g on the track as well, under the
same conditions. But BMW is using it to advertise its cars, and that has
obviously upset a few people.

Has anyone actually tried towing a race car with a 540/740? A nice big Ford
Power Stroke would be nice, but if I can get away with using a 540 to tow my
M3 to the track, I wouldn't need to have a seperate tow only vehicle. Any
thoughts?

Hey! Just emailed you!

At any rate, I would consider a fair price to be about 14,000 only if the
car is excellent condition. Now keep in mind we are talking about a car
which is 9-13 years old so excellent condition differs from what I would
consider an E36 M3 to be in excellent condition. If the car has low
mileage, zero rust, is the first or second owner, has never been in a major
accident (trust me - you can tell real easily), has all the original parts
in the car, and is overall on good shape? Pay 14.... if you get it for
11-12 - you're stealin.... jump on it. Anything over 14k would require the
car to be in concours condition. If the owner is only asking 8-11k it is
probably not worth buying but take a look anyway.

Try not to purchase a car that has been heavily modified (Turbo charger,
supercharger etc), tracked and put back together etc. I have been looking
very hard for a couple of years with no luck..... But with the advent of
the BMW mailing lists I would think you can find a car fairly easily now and
I am ramping up my search so I can get rid of my '97 328iC while waiting for
my new E46 M3.....

Hope this helps.
