It worked for a while, but the solution is a new motor. There is no way to know which you have without pulling the shroud, the motor, and looking. I read an article in Sport COmpact Car where HRE had worked out an offset for the NSX to fit the largest tires possible. They also said the numbers were "top secret". Ridiculous. If a wheel manufacturer really wanted to use the same measurements, all they would have to do is *measure* an example of the wheel. The trick is not the offset, but the design, construction, and weight. All in all it was a good experience although there were some disappointments here and there. I had expected to see certain vehicles that were absent from the Show. Red M5 was present albeit in locked condition. At least it wasn't on a pedestal display or roped/gated off area. Usual smattering of 3-series and 5-series cars with a couple of touring models. Z3s, M Roadster. No M Coupe or E46 "preview" car- I had really hoped to see the new M3 in person, oh well. Z8 was present on a pedestal display. Predictably, the biggest attraction at BMW were the two X5s- TWO (2) X5s. At no time during my stay in the BMW section were the X5s empty. People were getting in and out constantly. Families would fill up the X5- husband and wife in front and the kids in the back. >From the looks of it, the X5 will be a big seller. Probably even more so when the 3.0L I6 version debuts as the current price is way above most SUV offerings and unless the buyer is well informed (or informed by the salesperson via indoctrination/test drive), I don't think most buyers from the general populace will understand the differences between the X5 and say a typical SUV. Lexus had the IS300 (Altezza) present- the much vaunted 3-series beater. It was in a nice shade of metallic blue and was on a special display that resembled a dyno- presumably to reinforce the fact that it is a RWD car, like the 3-series Bimmers. IMO, Very nice overall. Interior felt smaller than a E46 BMW and looked a bit (Audi-ized) with a strange (different?) looking instrument cluster and aesthetic touches throughout the car. The show car had the Lexus semi-automatic tranny with a pair of DOWN shift buttons at the 9 & 3 o'clock positions and the UP shift buttons directly opposite on the other side of the wheel. BMW might get some serious competition from the IS300- especially when the manual version debuts later this year/next year. I was unable to get pricing information for this vehicle. That's what is says on the steering wheel. It sounds like the airbags being discussed here are the "big" ones that have to cope with a potential 300lb neanderthal who doesn't like being told to wear seatbelts. Consequently they will propel a smaller, belted driver out the rear windscreen should they activate. A smaller airbag, firing at a much higher rate of deceleration, can prevent someone smacking their face on the steering wheel, thereby damaging their important bits (NOT those important bits). Such a system wouldn't "punch" the driver's lights out, merely extend to the point where the driver's head starts to plummet towards the steering wheel. To have this kind of system you have to get drivers to belt up. Perhaps this, and not the government's futile attempts to save people from themselves, is the problem?
