This is a nebulous field to me, but concrete work has been done and implemented. The place I work at is planning to get into this field in the near future. As an example of stuff I've done: Listed frequency signatures of defective axles, transmissions, etc. This way you can make devices for dealers/servicemen without vibrations degrees. These devices basically read off a certain set of frequencies, check their magnitudes and suggest what the problem might be. They work pretty well. What I mention in opening though is much more complex than what I've mentioned immediately above. The former might involve things like neural network extraction of noise signature characteristics. This car is CLEAN and well cared for mechanically and cosmetically. It has a few little flaws that will be easy to fix, but overall it is in outstanding condition ... I'm happy. One thing I noticed is the rear windows are very slow moving. This was starting to happen on my 528e before it was killed, but I never go into fixing the problem. I prefer repairing parts over replacing parts (I'm cheap) - Has anyone found an economical cure for this ailment - is it in the motor, or the lift mechanism? If it's the motor, is there a fix to loosen them up? Drill an oil hole to oil the motor - add a zerk and regrease - hose it down with WD-40 - or something along those lines ... Thanks!
