I bought them used as snow rims for my 635csi. Sold car, they won't fit my e30. So they are for sale. They are in good shape (straight and true), though not great cosmetically (brake dust, etc.). They currently have very worn snows on them. Make an offer - I need the room to store other rims :-) I live in the Toronto region (Ontario, Canada). Plus I like the extra layer of skin to protect against little hands and bike handlebars. The way I do it is simply pull each corner of the car. Then remove the cover from around the mirrors. Fold the cover over and roll the cover up my pulling towards the front. To put it make on I just unroll it from the rear. I have an advantage of having an open air roof which is canvas and no trunk so I have little top surface to pull the cover over. It is not recommended to use a cover on a dirty car. I do it all the time though. I'd rather have the extra scratches than the scrapes and door dings. I wax my car twice a year but do try to keep it clean. The next available car in line had about the same miles, but the seller wanted $3K more. The bottom of the market for these cars - running- seems to be about $8K- close to what you mentioned, and I have seen 215K mile cars fetch $8K or so- remember, these cars aren't worth much less as parts- the engine is worth $3,500-$4,000 by itself. And like you said... the low end of the E30 M3 market is 8k... I think a car missing original parts and having 170k qualifies for the low end range. When you think about it, you purchased your '88 with only 70k miles for $10k... The eBay M3 will probably require at a minimum an engine and trans rebuild 5-6k perhaps? That puts the 8k M3 to 13-14k..... I had actually bid on this car myself but stopped at $8,000.00 when I didn't hit the reserve. What was not substantial was the amount of effort to do it - the racks are a direct swap. All that was needed was an extra washer on the upper banjo bolt so that the surfaces could seal - the M3 hoses are *slightly* different. I think the most important thing is to use a reflective panel in the windshield to protect against heat build-up in the car, and, more important, to try to stop the dash from cracking. Covering the whole car is a royal pain, AND, as your question asks, a car cover can freeze TO THE CAR! I just destroyed a nice cover I kept on an older Porsche. After being snowed in for 10 days, it was the car of choice to try to get out through the white stuff. Six inches of snow/ice were on the car, and enough moisture had gotten under the cover to freeze it to the paint. I ended up getting it off, but tore some patches where the cover's dual layers separated and stayed on the car(Technalon cover). Unless you are letting the car sit for several days, I'd just let the paint protect the car as best it can, whatever the weather. If you buy a cheap air filter, you engine sucks a little dirt....big deal, new rings a bit sooner. If you buy a cheap exhaust it becomes louder and rusts faster..so what? Even if you purchase a cheap strut bar, what's gonna happen? But when you buy cheap brake lines and one of them fails at Turn 1 @ Summit.....oh lawdy! Eurasian has the cheap crap. And cheap kevlar lines have been collapsing internally, and what's worse is you can't see it on a visual inspection. Spend the money here and get a set of Fischer's from Steve D'G or a set of Stillen lines, etc. which will be more expensive, but hey.....you DO want to have your brakes there every time you mash the pedal, eh? Buy the good ones, spend the money - the sheet metal you save may be your own. And DOT-approved doesn't mean a hellva lot.
