Several years ago I read an inside industry article at a Ford plant about Honda. In Japan you could order a car in any Honda color for paint, interior, seats and any combo of equipment available for that model. They didn't care what it was or how obnoxious it was. If you wanted yellow plastic seats, a green sash and pink paint. Fine. As long as options weren't mutually exclusive they would build it. And if you ordered it by Monday close of business they would deliver it to your house by Saturday. BMW obviously doesn't want to do individual cars here. They don't even want to do normal production cars the way we want them. Jim Remember the cupholder! <== rhymes with Alamo! Steven Schlossman wrote: > What does that mean? I know that BMW stock rotors are pretty expensive. I have been quoted CDN$120 for each front rotor. However, my mechanic is offering me Brembo OEM rotors at CDN$75 each. Has anybody with the same car used Brembo? I was considering getting the rotors turned ($15 for each) just in the interm. I mean, I'm not tracking the car or anything. Just crusing around town. I did get a chance to look at them when I had the wheels off, and they look thick enough. Comments? They call them their "System Helmets" I have a System II that I bought in Germany some years ago. They're up to System IV now. See if this is what you saw at http://www.bike.bmw.com/english/w_of_encounter/rider-equipment/helmets.html or http://www.bike.bmw.com/english/w_of_encounter_new/w_of_encounter/fa/fah/fah01_i ndex.htm They were convenient and were popular not only with motorcyclists in Europe, but also Olympic bobsledders. Downside? Not Snell approved. I also had to keep the latching pins lubricated or they would stick, making it hard to disengage the latch and flip the front up with thick motorcycle gloves on. (One more maintenance chore.) I think they've fixed that on the newer ones. Oh, and, you can't buy them from a dealer in North America. - --Scott - - - - - - - - >From: "Rob Levinson - UUC Motorwerks" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Subject: [uuc] Helmet question > >I saw a really cool helmet in a movie shot in Europe so I'm not sure this >kind is available or legal in the US as I've never seen one before... > >It was a full-face helmet except the entire front including the chin part >could swivel up. The temperature-dependent redline used on the M5 seems to have made an appearance, starting at 5,000; it looks like it runs to 8,000 then red from then on. I vaguely remember that the redline of the new motor was quoted as 8,000 rpm in the UK press some time ago (where the limiter is is anybody's guess; the current 321 bhp motor cuts out at something like 7,700 rpm, the usual 300 rpm north of the factory redline, if that's a guide). That gearstick looks a bit long though, doesn't it. And what happened to the evocative "M Power" script on the valve cover? Believe me, they were aware of it, and probably paid a lot less than book value to acquire the car, either at an auction, or on trade-in, and if they didn't, their used car manager is incompetent. Take your complaint direct to the dealer's owner/general manager, and first give him/her a chance to remedy the situation. They are fully aware that if they do not act on your complaint, that you have recourse through the BBB, and your state's motor vehicle division of the BMV. Their license to do business would then be in jeopardy, and they will avoid that at all costs. Even if this car was purchased by you at an extraordinarily low price, I believe that their failure to disclose the fact that it had been wrecked is a major blunder on their part regardless. I am a former used car manager, and had occasion to encounter cars such as yours. In the retailing of high-line vehicles, I would either have to have aquired it so cheap, that I could resell it cheaply, with full disclosure, or, wholesale the car immediately, at a prevailing lower market value for accident damaged vehicles. There simply is no excuse for a dealer to engage in this sort of transaction. The same fate befell the availability of BMW's child seat, and other safety/convenience products that were deemed too risky for NA's legal corps. You could still get one through list connections in Europe, but you would not have the luxury of being able to try one on for fit prior to purchase. So in the interest of helping everyone, anyone know where a faceplate can be had for cheap...and not outrageously priced like BMP's kit? Was it Lane Flynn? Everything is just a blur nowadays.... They all came with BMW sport seats, M-tech rocker panel covers, the cross-spoke wheels and the sports suspension on either 4dr or 2dr models. There was no additional designation and, just as with the "is" you can't tell by the VIN. Get them from Steve D'G, www.ultimategarage.com > I was considering getting the rotors turned ($15 for each) just in > the interm. I mean, I'm not tracking the car or anything. NO!!! You can't turn warped BMW rotors and expect them to work right... they are already too thin. A warp changes shape as the rotor heats up so turning them won't do any good. Heat them up and they're *still* warped. It's a total waste of money to turn them, track use or not. The brakes are the single most important item on the car and you shouldn't mess around with cheapie solution. Motor fails? Big deal, coast to the shoulder. Muffler fails? Big deal, your car is loud. Radio fails? Big deal, sing. Brakes fail? Tell me where to send the flowers. - - Rob ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Feb 2000 21:17:24 -0800 From: Donna Seeley <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [uuc] <E30> won't go into first gear I had this problem on my 88.
