At high rpm, added power comes from delayed intake valve closing and the fact that intake restriction and exhaust backpressure conspire to reduce the effectiveness of high overlap. At very low rpm, high overlap results in dilution of the intake charge and poor performance. Gary Derian <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > I believe the retard after 5000 RPM is because it is very difficult to detect engine knock at that speed (too much background vibration raising the noise floor for the detection accelerometers on the block) and most ECUs adopt a very conservative setting instead of operating the engine on the threshold of knock where it makes max. power without knocking. But I may be wrong about that. > > VaNoS also betters emissions since it helps burn the fuel better. I'm considering upgrading to E30 M3 control arms sometime soon, and was wondering what this'd do to the anti roll bars. The concern comes from the fact that normal E30s anti roll bars mount to a tab on the control arm, while M3 anti roll bars mount to the strut. Is there a provision for mounting this tab on the aluminum control arms? TIA. Damp/cold weather? While it could indicate a bad head gasket - this also can just indicate the oil hasn't gotten up in temperature high enough and long enough to boil absorbed water out of it - makes this whip cream sorta white stuff. Some oils are more prone to this than others (I'd suggest - if you want to use an inexpensive oil.. Castrol RX-Super 15-40 is better than GTX - same $$$ - the Super is a fleet oil - uses a different base oil. Rated for diesel use which is extended high-pressure use. Good stuff.) >We went through the TCPG fiasco 5 years ago, but I'm not sure what it is >this time. I haven't had time to look as yet (it's raining, and my >driveway is all mud). The map light mirror has a knurled stud that should be loosened away from the windshield first - then pop it out. To get it back it is another matter! This won't make any sence until you take a mirror out, but here's how I did it: 1. compress the spring-mounted retaining studs inward in a bench vise 2. lock the studs in the compressed position by jamming the mechanism with a woodscrew or something like that 3. remove from vise 4. walk gingerly to car, hoping the screw doesn't pop 5. position the mirror arm into its socket, slipping the side WITHOUT the woodscrew in first 6. holding the mirror in position, with pressure towards the socket, back out and/or pull out the woodscrew, and pray that the retaining stud pops into its socket 7. repeat until you have success I had not sucess with simply attempting to wedge the mirror back in using a screwdriver etc. to hold the retaining studs in. - -- Christopher P.
