The heater control unit was stolen and the wires cut. I was able to get a connector with about three inches of wire that fits the heater control unit that I also had to purchase. The only problem is that the wires on the connector are not the same color pattern as on my wire harness. If someone has a 97 and could possible pull the heater control unit and supply me with a diagram of the plug with the color of each wire from the harness and its location in the plug it would be a tremendous help. It was much better last year. Last year you could sign up for the Drive for the Cure and could even find a phone number to call. This year it's hard to find anything and with a 56K, on a wish modem, pages are slow. The little tubes on top of the tank are gone. Your tank will leak when full, or under hard left cornering. You need a new gas tank. Trust me. Pull back the rubber gasket/flap thing around the filler neck, and you can see the little tubes (on the right). I understand the two 8mm holes in the transmission cross-brace have to be enlarged to 10mm for the 320i mount bolts to fit through. What is the easiest way to do this? Will a rattail file do it? If not, how tough is that metal to drill? I am kind of scared of drilling metal; don't want shards in my face. Do I need something besides your run of the mill drill bits (made of steel, not cobalt or depleted uranium)? Is 3/8 inch close enough to 10mm -- haven't seen metric drill bits in any store??? Should I use that size bit to make the hole, or something small enough to fit in the existing hole and try to grind away the edges? Thanks for any help. I also switched out the rear shock mounts on the car yesterday. These things were totally shot after 35k (not sure if they were the original ones as I bought the car used), the metal discs sitting completely on top of the ripped rubber on both sides. Uh, guess I should have done this couple of years ago. This is a very easy R&R, even with one person with some contortions. No need to jack up car as Bentley recommends. I cut up the insulation and carpet above the mounts as recommended by Bob Stommel, and the speakers almost completely cover the cuts. The mounts can now be checked for integrity in the 5 minutes it takes to remove the rear speakers. I also noticed something not in Bentley - on the carpet lining the passenger side of the trunk, there appears to be little pull tab with a gas pump logo on it running through a small hole in the carpeting. I guess this is some kind of fuel pump shutoff? I hadn't even noticed this thing before. I almost pulled it off by yanking on the carpet - I guess that wouldn't have been good. You just need to enlarge the hole in the carpet to get the pull tab through it. I did some research when I was buying some wheels and the lightest (I don't have the figures) and best buy were wheels made in Japan by Kosei. I think the tirerack has them for the E30 and they are less than $200 each for 15X7. If you want lighter than that it is BBS time. As far as offsets go, most of these wheel sellers will offer hubcentric spacers that will make wheels fit a variety of cars. These spacers snap into the back side of the wheel and they stay put during tire changes etc. These spacers work fine and I use them on my Ronal wheels. These new wheels should also come with longer wheel bolts to go compensate for the spacers. By the way Ronal offers some great deals on E30 wheels (let them know you are a club member). They are TUV approved and mostly made in Germany, they are not especially light, but they are cheap.
