They confused me, and they didn't sound so organized themselves. Remember, this is a small town courthouse, like maybe 15,000 in the county I'm guessing. This was a little informal thing with the Magistrate and an assistant lady. The way I see it, my ticket never really existed! I should probably write a letter though, just to close the deal. Maybe I should visit the county prosecutor and ask him about this. I don't want to be sitting around sometime next winter and find out I owe the county a hundred bucks. This all happened in the town I'm going to college in, Angola, IN. My hometown (and where my car is registered) is Columbus, IN, 200 miles to the south. My dorm is only 5 minutes away from the courthouse. :) Man I would have been SOO mad if I had to drive 200 miles to find out the officer is either really smart (if he realized his error) or really forgetful (if he lost the ticket). However, a couple of other Chicagoans have emailed me saying that this particular dealership, which I haven't named but they guessed correctly, has a sordid history with customer service. That makes me think twice (or is it a third time now?) about going back. If any other Chicago area members out there have an idea which dealer (or is it officially "stealer" in this case?) I am describing, and have any experiences to relate, please email me privately.
