The mechanics should practice it a couple of times. Hopefully I'll find page 5 of 5 tomorrow. Jim Gleb Arshinov wrote: > That's not it. I don't use the Steptronic feature for daily driving, but I do for the track. Even then, not all the time. It's faster to leave it in Sport, but once in a while I prefer more control. The shift maps can be quite disconcerting especially when it decides to downshift mid-corner and you feel the rear end twitch as a result. >I would often use an autos' manual override to downshift before >corners I've heard horror stories about Bimmers being towed home after their owners get too frisky doing this on the track, although I don't know how much water these rumours hold. Its been reported that after parking their cars after a hot lap, they start the cars again and can't shift out of P. The Steptronic feature is basically an easier way of using the manual override which is another reason I don't use it too often. I'd rather err on the side of caution till I find out the truth to these rumours. >The autobox is a good one, but it is more expensive, heavier and >thirstier on fuel, and as food for thought, after playing with it >for a >while your friend may end up wishing he's bought the stick. When I'm on the track I always wished I had gotten the manual. Once I get back to the city, I'm so glad that I had gotten the auto. Its perpetual stop and go in downtown Singapore. I think the best compromise for myself would be something like the Selespeed on the Alfa Romeo 156 or the LMG option on the M3s.
