Interior dash destroyed, console missing, etc. power front seats in fair condition, rear seats in reasonable condition Exterior body has one small ding in left front fender. Paint bad. Original rims and tires. Odometer shows 135000 miles All glass looks to be in good shape. Questions I have are; 1. Will the 5 speed fit my 1973 3.0cs which currently has a 4-speed. 2. Will the rims from the 535 fit the 3.0cs 3. Is their a market for parting out this car if I acquired it. 4. What is a reasonable offer for a similar car in a similar condition worth. Any input would be appreciated. Watching a little Speedvision gave me an idea of who's still using them. I was watching the FIA World Rally a while ago and I think either a Subaru WRX or a Mitsubishi Lancer had its hood (bonnet) up and whaddaya know, a big ole red K&N filter in there. Then watching the 24hrs of Sebring the Alex Job boyz were having some trouble in their GT3R that's been eating up the competition. I'll give you one guess which red cone filter they were using. So if the K&N oil is animal fat, can I cook eggs with it? yummm... red eggs and ham. Carlos 91 M3 yeah, yeah I'm using one too, for now. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! I stopped by the local dealer and paid "list" for the replacement. The concise instructions on Brett Anderson's website <http://www.koalamotorsport.com/tech/e36.microfilter.htm> make the job relatively quick the first time and (it will be) a snap for future replacements. Thanks for sharing Brett! I'd budget 30-45 minutes for your first go at this. The only tools I used--Phillips screwdriver and flashlight--were those that came with the car. What Brett doesn't tell you: My face was in the footwell beneath the filter when I pulled it out along with a quantity of dust, pollen, etc. If you're a severe allergy sufferer you'll want to wear a surgical mask or at least cover your mouth and nose with a towel when pulling the old microfilter out. (Better yet, bribe a neighborhood kid to pull the little black handle and have a beer while the dust settles.) Also, do this job BEFORE vacuuming the car--you're going to get bits of dried leaves and dirt in the passenger footwell. As far as I can tell I removed the original filter (at 50K miles) meaning whoever did the cars Inspection 1 and the pre-purchase "certification" routine didn't bother. I bought the car "certified" at 31K. My Inspection II was done at 45K by a non-specialist shop--I knew they weren't doing the filter. From now on this task is going to be part of my pre-Summer (allergy season) routine. Thanks again to Brett for his help. jeff ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Mar 2000 12:48:23 -0800 From: Jim Powell <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] Tire mounting problems Due to the kindness of Ben Keyes, here is a link that should help for those that have mechanics that are having difficulty mounting tires. Maybe I'm asking > this because I bought a K&N filtered Dinan CAI before JC's was > available and I'm looking for some validation, but I think at least > a little of my curiosity is genuine. Anyone have any ideas? Two things I can think of... A lot of older gearheads have run K&N on their rod/buggy/boat for years. The application has usually been a motor whose life span was dictated mostly by how many HP were produced and how often they were all put to use. Rebuilds were scheduled around upgrades and broken rods. A little extra wear from plain ol' dirt hardly figures in, so a little mesh on the intake that stops birds, frogs, and larger rocks is good enough. Since K&N never failed 'em, there's no reason to switch. More important is marketing. They're saturating the gearhead channels (SV,TNN) with ads. They promise great things. This alone makes them popular. Never mind the ads say nothing about filtration quality, only quantity. Also never mind that they blatantly show foam as being the worst type of filter media (worse than paper), which runs counter to anything I've read and any flow test I've witnessed... - -- John Bolhuis | "In America it is not considered to be mentally ill bolhuijo | when a woman advances on her prey in a discotheque @bolhuijo.com | setting with hardy cocktails present." | -Madonna ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Mar 2000 17:54:42 -0500 (EST) From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (John Hart) Subject: Re: [uuc] Looking for specific E30 wheels Yes, but haven't you seen these wheels after they make the slightest contact with (in sequential order) Virginia moonshine (sorry officer), midwestern poon-tang (or Ted Nugent lying on the road--"I love animals, and I'd die for em') or any other assorted American road hazards, ie Charlton Heston down on his knees in NY "You blew the whole thing..you bastards"!!!!!!?????? If you have a good mechanic who wants to supply the parts he/she installs, then try to negotiate a discount on the parts as the Golden Gate chapter has done for CCA members in the SF Bay Area. Most Bay Area dealers and reputable BMW independents give CCA members a 10 or 15% discount on parts, some even on labor. Phaedrus, the shop I patronize in SF does this as a matter of course for loyal customers who are CCA members. They even encourage me to have new tires drop shipped to them from Tire Rack because they knw that they can't come close to matching Tire Rack prices, and they appreciate that I don't have a lot of money. They do charge me their labor rate for mounting and balancing--that's fair.. But, don't expect to walk into a shop for the first time with your mail order exhaust system and Bilstiens and have them be overjoyed at the opportunity to install them for you. That doesn't seem fair to me. Cheers Michael. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Mar 2000 17:52:47 -0500 From: Thomas Philip <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] <WTB> <E36> IFG wheels Anyone out there in TV land have any IFG wheels for sale?
