I can't answer your specific questions about the radiator David. However, I can tell you that there is an active TSB regarding overpressure in the cooling system, and that may be the cause of your failure. The resolution is a new overflow tank cap designed to controll the overpressure conditions. I went through a couple of cooling system hoses before the dealer informed me of the TSB. No problems since the new cap was installed. BTW, the cap is free. Bill Jacobs Motorsport on Ogden Ave in Naperville, IL has a black/black, sport package, calf top, 5 speed, I think around 35K miles and it's a 97. Still on their lot, I passed it last night. Was it me or the car? Took a 2000 Z3 2.8 out for a test drive last night. (Car had only 41 km on it, and 17" wheel option). While the car tracked straight and smooth on even pavement, on rough pavement the handling was really choppy and sometimes the car would not track straight (instead, veering to left or right). I was not driving at high speeds or pushing the car too hard. It just seemed that the car had a mind of its own, and it was not in tune with where I wanted the car to go. It seemed that I had to work too hard to keep the car straight on uneven pavement. Handling felt really unsure. Is this a "feature" of the Z3? Personally the police put it on the line every day against some really nasty behavior, and teachers are entrusted with the temporary care and education of our kids - I think that society undervalues their contributions. Spend all my adult working life in some way associated with classified projects and as a line or functional manager the last several years. That has exposed me to years of "brainwashing" on what to look out for regarding employees who may have substance abuse problems or may be security risks. One thing is look for people who appear to be living at a higher level than one might anticipate for their presumed level of income. Stopped to buy gas and an "on the road" "dinner" with the family at a McDonalds and admired VERY current model 740 - fine looking car. So we are inside and while waiting for the "food" ( choice of establishment was a concession to the kids) -I was looking around trying to guess who owned and drove the 740. By and by two guys get up and head out. They appear to be about 45-50, average guys, one in "civvies" and the other in the uniform of a local cop, with 3 "stripes" on the sleeve. They head out the door towards the mini van parked next to the 740 and I thought nothing of it until I noticed the BMW's headlights flash and heard the "unlock" alarm chirp. I then watched the guy in civvies climb into the mininvan and the Cop get into the BMW and both drive away! OK - so I have a nasty suspicious mind ( hey as a parent many many times over and what I do to earn a living I am supposed to ? ! :-) ) - but . . . Now - I have no objection to anyone (cops included) driving whatever they want that they can afford - I rejoice in their success and the more power to them, but with all we hear about underpaid police, a "sergeant"? driving a current 7 series --- stands out like a sore thumb! (Or a Hooters gal in a monastery ?) Just my observation of the day. And to put the new one in. ===== David Kroth [EMAIL PROTECTED] __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! Have they ever seen an autocross? Unless by some freak of nature, (or if you are from France), your head resembles an orange cone, I don't see how it could be dangerous. Unless you are talking about Solo1 (I think that is what it is called, where you fling your car around a track in a timed event), there is really no danger at all. It is probably one of the safest driving events out there. Invite them along. If they aren't driving enthusiats, they will probably just think it is stupid and boring. But definitely not dangerous. Was it me or the car? The dealer might have been that they had not taken the rear spring spacers out of the car. this makes the car ride really rough. several people on the M/Z3 message board have had this happen. just sloppy dealer pre-delivery work. the M coupe is heavier (or same weight) & has harder suspension & it's not at all un-stable on rough pavement, just a bit bumpy.
